In light of the recent announcement from AeroTech, might it be possible to create a “seasonal/intermittent production” status to go with the regular availability and OOP statuses?

We listened and responded to your comments and suggestions. If you are interested in purchasing any of the listed seasonal motor production items, please contact your favorite AeroTech dealer immediately.

Attention AeroTech Consumers:

Due to an overwhelming response from our AeroTech dealers and consumers, we have decided to alter the criteria for our “Discontnued Product Program” and move towards an approach of “Intermittent Seasonal Producton” for our lower volume products. Below is the same listing of products, from our current product line, that was sent out to our AeroTech dealers on Monday, July 25th, 2022. This listing includes products with both a current available inventory and “0” inventory. We are going to reopen the opportunity for our AeroTech dealers to order any items on this list, one more time over the next 2 weeks, regardless of current inventory levels. This dealer ordering opportunity will end on Friday, August 19th, 2022 at 5:00pm MDT. The lead time for items ordered from this list by AeroTech dealers will be 6 to 8 weeks, or sooner if possible. If you are interested in purchasing these products during this seasonal production opportunity, please contact your favorite AeroTech/Quest Rocket Dealer to place your orders now. Remember, when quantities are gone these products will only be produced and available on an intermittent seasonal production basis. It may be a year or more before they are made available again.

All items listed will be removed from our 11-page AeroTech Mid-Power & High-Power Order Form / Price List. These items may continue to be intermittently produced in the future, on a seasonal or once annual basis, at AeroTech’s discretion. For additional information please contact the AeroTech/Quest Customer Service Department at [email protected] or call (435) 865-7100, ext. 2#.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the AeroTech/Quest product line.

Best Regards,

LOL. There was another status originally (regular, occasional and OOP), but the UI was simplified some time ago because manufacturers refused to admit some motors were not regular production.
The next question after someone sees the "occasional" status would be "when is it available."

(warning: assumptions ahead!) While it wont be manufactured on a regular basis, it still is an active reload and the cert will be maintained. If a run is made once per year or every 2 years, it is still under production and certified so I'm not sure a different status would be warranted. Yes, those reloads will be harder to get but it sounds like demand isn't high already so the impact to customers (us!!) should be very low except for those few people that buy that reload.

Agreed - The manufacturers only have two ways to designate a motor - "in production" or "out of production". I imagine most of the HPR motors Aerotech announced a couple weeks ago will remain "in production".

Any discussion about alternative designations, manufacturers moving back and forth between production/not in production, etc will quickly devolve into "rocket politics" at the TRA/NAR level and become a mess.

At the end of the day, any motors Aerotech wants to produce in the future will have to be designated as production motors that will have very low availability.

I notice that mobile browsers don’t support selecting a diameter range in the Search functions as of yet. Any chance that that’ll be implemented?

Ahah, it could be a screen width matter. The code not going to the expanded form layout if it deems that not enough room. The threshold is somewhere in between landscape phone and landscape tablet, higher than portrait tablet.

Several people notified me that ThrustCurve.org was producing errors. This appears to be due to some change in the web hosting (Heroku) or DB (Mongo) service providers and I haven't been able to find a quick fix yet.

I have enabled a maintenance page for now and will bring it back up as quickly as possible. (Unfortunately, I happen to be on vacation at the moment so it won't be immediate.)

Thanks for your understanding.

What has happened with the ThrustCuve online site?

Whenever I’ve tried to access it for the past week I get the following message:

“Offline for maintenance
This app is undergoing maintenance right now.

Please check back later.”

Sorry about that; I miss it too. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there is an easy fix. I should have time this weekend to dig into it and hopefully will get it back up soon.

This is what i see when I try to bring up thrust curve

Thanks John! I never realized how much I used Thrustcurve until it wasn't available. Just wanted to say thanks again for all the amazing work you have put into that site.

OK, I went through the last couple of pages and collected feature requests, see the to-do list. I apologize if I missed a suggestion; feel free to raise it again.

One feature request that comes up a lot is the ability to compare motors. This is already supported, but is kind of hard to find. Once you've viewed a couple of motors, there is a "Compare" link on the right side. Also, when you search, you can compare directly from the results page.

Thank you, John!

All --

Studying up to fly some rockets and playing with OpenRocket on an old Glass Rocket I've got about ready to fly with the Blue Raven.

Anyhow, I am curious about what happened to the Total Impulse of the 'classic' AT G40W ?

Back in 1997 / 1998 the Motor produced about 112 N-sec Total Impulse.

The latest data at thrustcurve.org lists it at 97 N-sec.

Is the new Online Data correct ?

Thanks !

These are three Rho-V^2 normalized thust curves ( and the Averages ) that I've reduced from AltAcc Accelerometer Data in 1997 / 1998:

Code:
