I've had at least one THOY rocket in my (flyable) rocket fleet at any given time since I got into the hobby. Prompting this photo and thread is the fact that I now have three in flyable condition, which is funny because THOY has been gone for years. Phoenix, Nighthawk, and Falcon. The Phoenix is the real deal, with updated decals from Stickershock. The other two have several new parts and have been resurrected more than once. I've crashed more rockets into Lucerne dry lake in the last 25 years than I want to admit.

Coolest thing about the Nighthawk, it's got a 7x29 mount. Back in the mid 90's the original kit I had flew two or three times on single motors before it crashed, so I never did get to fly it on 7 motors. It will fly at Lucerne this fall on 7xG40W. If all goes well, I will fly it again at Octoberfest in Vegas on another 7 motor cluster that will include.......wait for it..........F50 SILVERSTREAKS! The SS's will be airstarted chad style via thermalite, of course, as you can't light them with composites on the ground. Am I trying to relive the 90's or what?

Put your head between your knees, Bob. I said "including" F50SS. As in there will be other, different motors in the cluster. I have three F50SS in total now, but will use only two in the Nighthawk in said flight. But yes, genuine Rockeflite SS.

I still have a THOY Phoenix in mostly flyable condition. I cracked some fillets on it's last flight, but I repaired that. Just haven't touched up the paint...

I think you know I dig this:)

I had two Falcons. Very like the EZI-65.

The Nighthawk is the one I always wanted but never got.

THOY made some cool rockets back in the day. I LOVE the NightHawk, wish I still had mine! Only flew it once on 7 G40Ws at Argonia in '97. Almost everyone had a Falcon too.

Thanks for sharing, Jeff. Love the liftoff pic! Large clusters of G40's look so cool. I recall a guy who clustered like 19 in an old HPR mag article. I may dig it out to look but I remember the exhaust plume having the same shape. Can't wait to do my G40 cluster. G80's would be cool, too. Hmmm.

Please get a video!

Definitely!

Same thing has happened to mine. I'm afraid to fly it, anyway. It hangs from the ceiling and looks cool there.

I knew you would! Yeah I recall guys flying the Falcon on I65's. I looked at the numbers and stability is marginal. If only I had a J100 or J125...

I bet you're thinking to Randy Ussery's (sp?) Sudden Sensation rocket that had something like 28 G motors in it all ignited using thermalite. Randy was of DARS fame back in the day and I happened to be there for that flight and Poker probably was, too. I do miss the days of large clusters which is why this thread got my attention. That, and I've always wanted THOY rockets (and Silver Streaks :)).

I bought a THOY Falcon for my L1 in 1995, of I remember correctly, but then dropped out of the hobby for a while. I finally got my L1 with it, however, in 2010. I still have it and other than a cracked fin that I need to replace, it's in perfect shape.

Oh!! And I found pics of my cert flight! The flight was in Lilly, GA and it went up on the venerable AT H123.

i bought a nighthawk back in the 90's too! flew it out at airfest on 3-G125's and 4- G25's. turned into my favorite combo, but flew it many more times on a variety of clusters and even single motor.

3xG125 and 4xG25, that's an awesome cluster! Pics? Those are classic motors, too. Did you light them all at once? I keep meaning to compare an old G125 to the new ones. I've got some of each.

Now you really got me thinking about cluster possibilities. I do EX so the sky's the limit there, but for my local CSFM-approved-only launches, 7xG75 metalstorms would be cool at dusk. I may also try a central hot H or I and then airstart 6xEstes F15's. I still like the idea of 7xG80's. So many choices! I just have to keep the rocket around long enough to try them all. Back in the day before altimeter deployment was a thing, my rockets usually didn't last that long.

Still have my THOY Wasp and it is one of my favorites. I built it straight out of the bag with the THOY 18" payload extension. It's a real hot rod...

Does anyone know who ended up with the rights to all of the THOY kits? I think Rocket R and D did but then what?
