Thoughts on Batteries

Was eyeballing this battery

to use in the launch controller discussed in

Just wondering if there would be any real advantage to using two of the batteries. If I have them standing upright in the bottom of the ammo can there would be room for two. If I only use one and lay it down there would be more room for other stuff, like rolled up wires.

Thoughts?

That is perfect. Sealed lead acid batteries have a very low internal resistance and can really push out a lot of amps when needed. They are also very safe compared to toting around a spare car battery.

I can not see any advantage of using two since just one can put out plenty of amps. The switches and wiring in the system would provide more of an issue at than point than needed two batteries for more amps. You would have no use for 24V, and one battery should keep you launching for a very long time.

Well, I actually meant two in parallel to keep the 12v, but have more amps if for any reason I would need them.

Well, if you check out this thread:

4th post down... bobkrech did the math and a 12V lead acid battery can potentially delivery up to 300 amps if needed. That is in a perfect environment on a dead short. So even if you took only 10% of that, you can still get 30 amps of instant output from the battery which which would be plenty. If you need more than that, look into a relay system

If I understand what he said (high school electronics class was a long time ago) one will do just fine.
I like the idea of the UPS and being able to use it for other stuff too. I have one under my desk and......
No. I have to leave it right where it is, but there is one at work that is not being used that I could probably talk the boss out of.
