For all you history buffs, on this day in space history (10-31) the following are some of the events that happened

1930 Michael (Mike) Collins was born
1949 Terrence Wade (Terry) Wilcutt was born
1963 First production F-1 engine delivered (Saturn V 1st stage engine)
1964 Theodore Cordy (Ted) Freeman dies in an aircraft accident

Also on this day in 1926 Harry Houdini died. To this day there are those that wait on each anniversary for him to make his greatest escape. And they say us rocketeers are crazy.

Yesterday however marked the anniversary of H.G. Wells' famous "War of the Worlds" broadcast in 1938. That day "the media" learned that people will believe almost anything said over the air-waves.

Todays's space history is also interesting.......

1923 - Goddard tests first liquid rocket motor.
1944 - Jet Propulsion Laboratory established.
1959 - Mercury spacesuit delivered.

Not too much interesting happened on this day in space history.....

1955 - First Mach 8 rocket flight.

Mach 8?? It was moving!!! I need to find out some more info on this one......

According to https://www.astronautix.com/thisday/novber02.htm

First air-launched, multistage, solid-rocket-propelled vehicle flown to a Mach number
greater than 8 by NACA Lewis Laboratory.
But the reference sited doesn't have details and I can't find anything on NACA Lewis Lab
relating to Mach 8 or above...

In fact, not much on Mach 8 until the X-34...

Nov 3rd is a better day in space history....

1957 - Sputnik 2
1973 - Mariner 10 first flyby of Venus

I think we need to remember this day........

18 years ago today, at 11:39 am we lost 7 heros....

Dr Ronald Erwin McNair

Sharon Christa Corrigan McAuliffe

Ellison Shoji Onizuka

Michael John Smith

Francis Richard Scobee

Dr Judith Arlene Resnik

Gregory Bruce Jarvis

I failed to post yesterday's history....... 37 years ago yesterday we lost 3 heros........

Virgil "Gus" Ivan Grissom

Edward Higgins White, II

Roger Bruce Chaffee

And unfortunately, today, Feb 1, another sad anniversary. 2 years ago today we lost the crew of the space shuttle Columbia. RIP to the 7 members of STS 107 and Godspeed to STS 114 when they return to flight.
