I posted a pic of this in the "winter project " thread and figured it's time to give it it's own space.

As a tribute of sorts to our own beloved "Sandman" with his "Military Transglobal Interceptor" (which I have..kit #7...thank you very much) I have come up with a military looking 168% upscale I am calling "The O.T. Escort Fighter".

All parts are basic Estes stuff I had on hand. It's about done in the build stage. Now for primer and paint. I know...anything but white.....right guys.

Marty,
That is a nice rocket. How come your's was built faster than mine in the winter project. It looks "sweet" as my boys would say. I was thinking of making a fleet of OT's to go with my 3X, and now I know what will be the escort vehicle.

Guy's....Hey, thanks for the kind words:)

I'm just trying to keep up with the rest of you with your cool builds.:D

Paul....actually it's basically just all dry fitted...well some of it. I'm toying with a baffle of sorts and then a recover system.

Marty,

Very cool!! This is a great looking build. Looks like you built up the cockpit on the "mother ship." What material did you use? Is the nosecone on the "shuttle/fighter" from a kit? Looks like the cone from the Estes F22. Again, well done!

Bill...The canopy was hand made from a glue-up of 1/8th balsa and a pattern from the Estes kit #1339 Space Cruiser Excalibur and just CA'ed onto the PNC60.

The Fighter NC came from an Estes Astro Sat LSX kit. Part PNC55IR #72054.

Oh...and those big honkin fins....they were leftovers from a Silver Comet/V2 conversion.

Just let me finish before I see the "Clones".

Very slick build and paint Marty!

I have 2 OT kits in bags in my stash somewhere. I really need to take the time to just build one whenever I make some time. I've only ever seen one Estes OT take flight. The glider had some major hangtime. Best of luck with the flight. Bring it home in one piece!

As we used to say, "That thing is BAD! "

Meaning, of course... good. I mean cool. I mean slick, er. Actually, I think it looks kinda Darth Vaderish.

Great job, dude!

Thanks guys.

I'm still not finished with it yet. I need to do some final details and find some sort of decals for it. To me....it's just looking a little bare.

Marty,

I like the finishing, but I guess some trim wouldn't hurt. I too like the shuttle section's canopy!

I've been anxious to do an upscaled Orbital Transport.

Here is a picture of my green OT. I'm think about a whole fleet of different colored ones.

Sweet!

Are those homemade decals? If so, you sure can't tell from the pic.

The decals are either Papa Tango, or JimZ. I bought from both a few years ago, and I forget now! I do have a set of upscaled OT decals from Papa Tango for a 1.68X OT (BT-60 based). Both of these guys make nice decals.

Lee,

I really like THAT!

How about a blue or purple set??

I believe the decals are JimZ's I think I remember he told me about it...but lately...ya don't wanna trust MY memory for anything!

Marty,

If you get a chance to go to a hobby shop look for some decals in the plastic model airplane section...I don't remember the copmpany but they usually have a binder full of decals.

Maybe a set from an F-14 or even an X-15 would work.

Has it flown yet?

Not yet ... and I forgot I posted about this green one a year or so ago. After I finished it, I started working again (really gets in the way of hobbies!).

I decided to get out of HPR, but I still have plenty of passion for "Estes" stuff -- low power, and some mid-power.

To me, it is mostly about recreating the stuff from my youth, and upscaling it too!

Funny thing, I was thinking last night I'd get two sets -- blue and purple! And you are right, it was JimZ I got them from.

First the mind goes, and then something else, but I cannot recall ...
