The conspiracy people are just harmless goofballs, right?

Tucker Carlson has come on TV and said the CIA killed Kennedy.

Just 10 days before the assassination JFK demanded the CIA's UFO files be released to him and to NASA.

Supposedly the term "conspiracy theorist "was coined by the CIA to discredit Kennedy assassination theorists in particular.

So, to answer the OP question, yes, conspiracy people are not harmless, but have in the past posed a threat of sorts to the national security state.

Wow, a conspiracy theory about who invented the term "conspiracy theory"?
Very entertaining.
And humorous.
Tucker Carlson has come on TV and said the CIA killed Kennedy.
Excerpt:
"Just read U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil's opinion, leaning heavily on the arguments of Fox's lawyers: The "'general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary.' "

Translation: A reasonable, intelligent person would not accept what he says as fact without skepticism. Use your brain.

Just 10 days before the assassination JFK demanded the CIA's UFO files be released to him and to NASA.
Excerpt:
"The top secret memo hasn't turned up anywhere else besides Lester's book, however, and some archivists question its authenticity. A research technician at the JFK Library in Boston, who asked not to be named, was unable to find a carbon copy of it in its presidential archive, which holds copies of all of JFK's letters.

"We did some research into the presidential papers to try to find any evidence of the Nov. 12, 1963, letter to the director of the CIA, John McCone," the technician told Life's Little Mysteries. Despite the fact that JFK kept carbon copies of all his letters, even the classified ones, "in searching through the president's office files — CIA, NASA and National Security files — we could find no evidence of this memo or anything like it."

Furthermore, it doesn't look like other top secret memos Kennedy wrote during his presidency.

"Something is a little odd about it," the technician said. "It is sanitized in very odd places: the director's name, the top heading of the document (which usually distinguishes which agency is generating it) and then the tiny "top secret" print at the top of letter. Top secret items are usually stamped in large dark ink on the letter."
Supposedly the term "conspiracy theorist "was coined by the CIA to discredit Kennedy assassination theorists in particular.

Debunked.

Tucker Carlson. Lol. Is that where you get your pro-Putin, anti-Ukraine garbage?

You know that Tucker Carlson does not deal in “real news”, right? His own legal defense for his outlandish rants is that no sensible person would mistake his show for factual information to be taken seriously. That’s how he has defended himself against charges of defamation. According to him, he’s not a reporter or journalist — he’s an entertainer. So legally he’s allowed to piss down your leg and tell you it’s raining, which is exactly what he does every night. Lap it up!

Actually no. I have not watched Tucker Carlson in many years. I understand he is very popular with Fox News channel watchers. I find him a bit "over the top" for my tastes. I have stated several times my views on Ukraine come from Colonel Macgregor and Scott Ritter, and also from Professor Stephen Walt and Professor John Joseph Mearsheimer. IMHO, you cannot be an objective student of reality without taking their views into consideration. Otherwise, you are a partisan, a cheerleader for war.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would cease from impugning my views as garbage, and conduct yourself in a more mature, polite and respectful fashion as I am sure you are capable if and when you make the effort.

As you may know, I am banned from posting in the Ukraine thread because my views were considered "too political". Well, I am not a political person, not a member of any party. I have voted libertarian or independent for over 30 years. I'm concerned that the national narrative over Ukraine has become enforced into very narrow bounds with any dissent being too swiftly dismissed. Previously we've been led down this path of warmongering on a basis of lies before in Vietnam and Iraq II. Don't let it happen again.

So why did you post two videos, one about Carlson's claim that the CIA killed Kennedy, and the other linking a request for UFO information to the Kennedy assassination?

Yes, seconded. I’m a bit incredulous that an actual deserter would cite his content in an attempt to support an argument, but I’d welcome a different explanation, if one exists.

Or would you prefer to backpedal? Admitting to watching and believing garbage is fine; in fact, acknowledging that it’s garbage it’s the first step to getting out of radicalizing environments and undergoing personal growth.

This is the goofball conspiracy thread, right? If you can't have some fun with fringe topics and you can't have some meaningful discussion of reality in their respective threads, what's the point of a forum?

PS: Here is a hot rumor for you: Ukraine President Zelensky is going to be replaced by 4 star General Valerii Fedorovych Zaluzhnyi. Remember, you heard it here first!
general zaluzhny from en.wikipedia.org

The story from Tucker Carlson is garbage, and Carson is a partisan hack. If you don’t want a reputation for posting partisan, political garbage, then stop doing it.

Another thing you could do to help yourself out would be to actually say what you think about the the things you link to. In this case, you posted the links with a sentence or two about what the videos were about, but no opinion from yourself. That implies you agree with the information you are sharing. Then when challenged on it you say you thought this was a thread for sharing goofball conspiracy theories. So are you saying the Tucker Carlson, Kennedy, UFO, CIA story is a goofball conspiracy theory? If so, you could have saved yourself some trouble by stating that up front.

The problem though is that it seems like you probably do believe the story. Hiding behind the idea that the thread is for sharing goofball conspiracy theories is a lot like Tucker Carlson hiding behind “Hey, I’m not saying it’s true. I’m just asking questions and letting people decide.”

According to some QAnon wackos, JFK is not dead. He’s alive and in disguise and is actually… wait for it… Donald Trump!

Could it be true? QAnon theorists say it is. And if so, what does this mean for the JFK-CIA-UFO theory? We will explore the startling implications next on Ancient Aliens.

This board generally (GENERALLY) has a certain political orientation, and if you don't fit the mainstream here your opinions will not be tolerated. Even if you back up what you say with fact. Offer your alternative views, but persisting in them (even politely) is a waste of time and they will eventually turn on you.

This joke thread exists for guys like Thirsty to increase their post count. There is no desire to engage in a dialectic with you unless you are affirming their mainstream views. Stick to rocketry if you want serious discussion.

I beg to differ. At this point, it now is a joke thread... 😆
True.
But when someone posts "Goofball conspiracy theories" (his words not mine), then he is practically begging to be ridiculed or smacked down.
Check out the flat earthers thread.
Plenty of jokes there.
I would expect no less if I did the same.

OK, all joking aside...

There are clearly a fair number of people out there that believe things that are clearly and universally not regarded as being true by way of clear-cut and irrefutable evidence. They're entitled to their beliefs, even if they're "wrong". That goes for the "goofy" conspiracy theory believers, too.

Where it becomes problematic is when those people use their beliefs in a destructive way... i.e. the January 6th rioters. Driving around in a pickup truck with an American flag with a backside that says "FJB" is protected by the First Amendment, destruction of public property and rioting is not. Hopefully for the sake of our Country, everyone involved in that riot will be identified and prosecuted appropriately... although I can think of one individual who will probably escape the clutches of the law unscathed.

Back to the OP's question
Are conspiracy people harmless goofballs?
It depends on how they handle their conspiracy- how do they act on them....
Someone who feels the Moon Landing is a hoax and just expresses their thoughts - yes harmless
Someone that believes there are Lizard People hiding among us, and decides to try to kill them, obviously dangerous.
Someone that believes in Chem Trails and decides to blow up a plane - again obviously dangerous.

I do believe most conspiracy believers are safe "goofballs", and many I think just claim to be a believer for the fun of it....

Maybe not if you have certain political leanings, or for those who have a very high post count, but for everyone else... ya... joke thread...

Conspiracy theories in any direction that are spread with no regard for truth can be dangerous. Not sure why you seem intent on making this political.
