@Lugnut56 mentioned the hinge material on the Apogee Texas Twister didn't appear particularly durable. I wondered about it myself.

I've included a picture of it here.

Anyway I decided I would try my sewn in double tape hinge for this. Furthermore, I hate filling Balsa and would combine that with papering the fins so here goes.

The hinge material provided by Apogee is very firmly, it basically looks like a piece of dryer sheet.

I'm guessing it is a little bit stronger, but sure doesn't look very durable.

Here is the weight of the piece they give you which actually is enough for three fins and as you can see it's basically weighs essentially nothing. It is glued in with thin CA which I expect adds negligible wt.

I demonstrate a fin that I have done my double tape hinge with the dental floss sewn-in. The completed hinged fin unit pre papering weighs 1.8 grams. The balsa wood before adding the tape weighed 1.6 gm so the hinge itself does weight 0.2 grams.

This obviously isn't a competition model.

We'll see what the weight is after I paper it.

The bottom picture is the paper getting ready to cut out for papering the fins.

Would Tyvek work for hinges? Wonder where I could get a small sheet? An 8x10 would make plenty of hinges!
