I saw a video where a guy launched a rocket and was receiving audio reports during the flight, presumably from an altimeter aboard the rocket, e.g., "elevation 2600 feet, 0.3 miles from launch point." I've seen GPS devices that report APRS telemetry, but what is this product that actually talks?

That could also be the software from Altus Metrum. It gives position reports by voice the whole way down.

Yeah, I didn't realize it until I turned up the volume on my Android device while I was testing the program! Get a Tele-GPS and it can be used
with it. Kurt

There are quite a few "Kate" flights planned for LDRS this year. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.

Here is an example of Kate narrating a flight that went just over 10,000 feet. PLAY AUDIO
