Simple. The strength is sufficient. The corrosion resistance is more important. Ever tried to unscrew the nut on a galvanized quick link that’s had about 20 flights on it? Used gunpowder is rather corrosive…
They are cheap enough to replace if they start getting corroded.

No, Ive never waited 20 flights to check my recovery gear!!! Do you use SS hardware on your AV bay? Trouble loosening up the wingnuts? A little smear of superlube on the threads protects and keeps parts moving that should move.

ewomack, what you have done will work perfect. These were just some other ideas that will work also. Nice thing in this hobby, there is never really a wrong answer. And as everyone will tell you, your flight never happened unless there are pics, pics and more pics. Good luck.

Excellent, thank you. Do people also epoxy the protector to the eyebolt or to the centering ring to keep it in place?

Yup. Stainless threaded rod and stainless wingnuts. No lube necessary.
