My hobby industry insider told me of some items being discontinued by
Estes. This is from their July 15, 2004 price list. The following items
are going bye-bye:

The 9114 Blurzz Dragster cars. They have been replaced by 9115,
which are the Blurzz Tuner Cars. They look like fast & the furious cars.
In starter sets, the Stars & Stripes #1407 has been discontinued.
The EST1960 Nova Payloader, EST2172 Monarch, EST2175 Nemesis, EST2174
Polaris and EST0834 XRay are all
discontinued. Also discontinued is #2180 Chrome Domes Silver.

In the what's coming department, here's the news on that:

The new #1452 Launchables set should be available in early August.
Of the new stuff, the Astrocam will be available late August/early September.
The Scissor Wing and Eagle Boost Glider are due in late Sept/Early Oct.
The Oracle Video is due mid Oct, but will probably slip to Nov (I think they
ran into some software issues).
Last but not least, the X Prize kits are due late Oct/early Nov. (licensing
issues). 2191 is now officially listed as X Prize SpaceShipOne. The Cosmos
Mariner (#2190) is not on the price list, and if it is made at all, will not
happen until 2005.

Sorry to hear the Monarch's been DCed, it's a nice kit.

OTOH, I'm glad they got the licensing for Space Ship One. I'm looking forward to getting quite a few of the X Prize rockets, especially this one.

The Nova Payloader was my first rocket! I performed many vital experiments with it, such as launching a vial of water, and seeing if there was any difference in taste between it and a control sample.

I might have to track another down before it's gone, the body tube was crushed not during flight or landing, but in the 11 years of storage between childhood and BARdom.

Has anyone heard what the resolution and frame rate will be on the Oracle?

Thanks,

Sam

I don't suppose your insider source has any pics, do they?

hehehe. I think the X Prize series will breath some new life into low-powered rocketry.

I've had pics of the kits on my main site, Ye Olde Rocket Shoppe since around May. Go to https://www.rocketshoppe.com and click on the sell sheet links on the home page.
