This thread is to discuss the storylines. There will be spoilers and reveals.
Also this thread is NOT for discussing or making political comments about the casting.
Please start your own thread if you wish to discuss that .

Just finished ep. 4 and was confused a bit at the ending. Had to watch the end a second time.
My take: The Queen Regent sent Galadriel to a ship to return to Eriador but changed her mind when she saw the leaves of the White Tree (Nimloth) shedding. A bad portent. So she authorized an expeditionary force and gave Galadriel her army.
A reveal about the stranger from the sky: A villager with the same mark as Theo says the meteor from the sky is a portent of Sauron's coming. So I don't think the stranger is Gandalf. He is not supposed to arrive in Middle Earth until the Third Age. Plus the fire from the meteor was not hot. Evil sucks the heat from a fire. An evil wizard? Saruman?
Also Sauron is already in Middle Earth but concealed, so I don't think it can be him.

Who is Adar? Why do the Orcs call him father?

The secret the dwarves were hiding is revealed.

I'm hooked.

OK, this is out there, but let's give it a whirl.
The Stranger fell from the skies right?
Earendil, Elrond's father became the Evening Star and was tasked by the Valar with guiding the Sun and Moon with his wife's Silmaril on his brow.
So did the Valar bring Earendil back to Middle Earth?
Is that who the Stranger is?
We shall see!

More clues:
Reviewed ep 2.
The Stranger rearranges the fireflies into a star constellation.
Reviewed ep. 4:
Elrond speaks to Durin of trying to live up to the legacy of his Father.
He mentions the Valar freeing him from the bounds of mortal earth to guide the Evening Star.
Hmmmm....

Ep. 5 dropped.
Confusing and contradictory clues about the stranger.
Good or evil?
I think the writers are doing this on purpose.
(I really want to get a look at the strangers' ears).
Halbrand accepts his destiny.
Turns out the elves had a secret of their own.
The purpose of Theo's remnant is recognized by Arondir.
The siege of the watchtower is imminent.
Laters.

I'm waiting for the cliff notes from you all as I couldn't make it past episode 1. 🙄

I have read that the producers are trying to appeal to both the hard core Tolkienites and the neophytes. I don't see how someone who isn't at least mildly acquainted with Middle Earth history will understand what's going on. The latest episode mentions "Silmaril" with no explanation of what that is. The lore from the books is just too comprehensive to cover in a short time. If you haven't read the books, good luck. Heads will be swimming. Same problem that the Dune movie had.

Had to go back and look for when the switcheroo for the "key" happened.
There is a scene where Adar says to Waldreg that he has something for him to do.
I think that's where the switch took place.
When Galadriel and Halbrand chased him down he was carrying the axe instead.
So how come nobody checked after that?
Doh.

Ep. 7 dropped.
The birth of the land of Mordor.
Numenor fails, the Queen Regent vows to return.
I was thinking that 500 men is not the "great army" in Tolkien's timeline.
The White Cloaked trio are powerful and evil.
But why are they looking for the Stranger?
I read that they are probably Easterlings from the land of Ruhn.
A people loyal to Sauron.
The future king of Gondor is dead?
Doubt it.
And we see a Balrog.
Season finale next week.

Season one finale dropped.
Sauron's identity is revealed.
It sort of but not really follows the Tolkien legendarium.
So some purists are gonna be screaming bloody murder.
Also a semi reveal of the Stranger.
Will wait a few days before discussing the spoilers.
But I was a little disappointed.
Was expecting an epic cliffhanger.

*******SPOILER ALERT************
So the Stranger appears to be a Wizard, but which one?
He and Nori head off to the East, so I'm back to thinking he may be Saruman.
Before he was corrupted by his study of Black Lore.
And even though the writers dropped teasers hinting at Gandalf.
(Follow your nose).

Why did the white robed trio believe the meteor falling from the sky was the coming of Sauron, when Sauron was already in Middle Earth?

In the Tolkien story the elves were deceived into forging the Rings of Power by Sauron in the guise of "The Lord of Gifts" (Annatar). They did not discover the deception until after the rings were made. In this series Galadriel discovers Halbrand's true identity before the completion of the rings. So why didn't she stop it?
:questions:

If you'd like to see an interesting and funny commentary on the Rings of Power - look up "Gandalf Roasts" online. Gandalf himself (sorta) covers and comments on every episode, with the able assistance of Elrond and other Lord of the Rings characters. I've been chuckling to myself all day after watching it.

Just read on Wikipedia that season 2 is "expected" to premiere in 2024.
What?
I hope it doesn't take 10 years to run the whole five seasons.
Jeez.

The Wheel of Time season two premieres Sept. 1.
Can't wait.

Looking forward to it. I also saw where LOTR: ROP will probably be at least another 1.5 to 2 years for new season, evidently they just started filming late last year.
