Made a fin jig from from some foam board. This is my first fiberglass rocket so i wanted to start with a small one and thought this one looked neat. We shall see.

It's a fun rocket, I loved my 4" gizmo until it ran away from home. I hope that motor tube isn't epoxied in there yet, that's sticking out the back awfully far...
It is but if you look to the left of the picture you can see the tail cone. Did you pack your chute in the nose cone? Just worried it not coming out on motor deployment.

Here’s a few more pics of the progress today.

How much extra nose weight do you need between the weight of and loss of base drag from the tailcone?

Looking good so far!
I’m going to wait till it’s all together and get a final weight to punch it in to the simulator to see how much I have to add. I’m guessing 3-4oz. It’s super big looking but very light spun aluminum. Think it’s going to look cool when it’s done.

Yeah, I had chute in the nose cone. Not "packed", there's lots of room. Had chute with nomex wrap and then most of the shock cord coiled above it. I had 8oz of weight with no tail cone. That gave the minimum stability I was comfortable with in the sims, even with a base drag cone. Probably could have gone less, but it was my L2 cert rocket.

This is going to be my L2 as well.

I asked as I have the Wildman one and it needs internal motor retention to use it.
This one uses the tail end of the aerotech case to retain it. I actually like the design a lot.

Comparing apples and oranges. The Wildman item is a "case closure" - it merely replaces the normal Aerotech threaded aft closure with one that is shaped like a tailcone. The Aeropack Tailcone is a "motor retainer" designed to keep the motor in the rocket.

Both tailcones, but very different uses.

Punch that thing off on its maiden flight with an I500 and make us all proud.

Then do your L2 on a J800. It will handle it easily and make you and everyone else giggle like schoolgirls. :)
Just did all the internal filets with West six10. Doing the externals with the same so she should be strong lol.

Some photo updates and a PSA if you’re going to use West’s Six10. Buy a heavy duty caulk gun. She presses out hard but it’s awesome stuff!
