I have an Estes SR71 kit. I sanded and cut out the wing patterns, but I can't get the peices to fit together as per the instructions.

Does anyone have a pattern that I can use to re-cut the wings from fresh balsa?

    Thanks

JimZ is one of the forum members, and he has a web site that has a LOT of the patterns for Estes kits. I haven't checked the site to see if he has the data for the SR-71, but it is worth a try. If you can't get it there, come back here and let us know. I'm pretty sure someone here will be able to get you the patterns.

    Here's JimZ web site URL:

Well, hang tight. There's probably someone here on the forum that will have wing patterns for it - or know where to get them.

sandman, JimZ, Lee Reep, rstaff - somebody? I gotta believe somebody has the patterns for it.......

Thanks, but I have the instructions.

What I need is a template for the balsa sheets.

I'll pull the balsa and scan it for you. I'll post the link to it tomorrow.

I ran into the same problem when my Little Brother built his SR71.

I faxed what I had on the fin pattern to estes and they told me the pattern was OFF a bit. It's a "discontinued kit and they just sorta talked me through the problem.

Make the inner wings about 3/16" to 1/4" wider and make sure they are parrallel to the body tube edge. This will give you enough "meat" to attach the paper shroud.

It's been a long time since I built the SR-71.

You will have to buy another sheet of 3/32" balsa to fix this but, you can always use more balsa.

Estes was very apologetic about my problem but the person who worked on the SR-71 was no longer with the company...

    I hope this helped.

I have an unbuilt SR71 kit and can get a tracing of the balsa parts. My scanner is out of commission at the moment so I will need to work on that, but I'll go ahead and get the balsa parts traced this evening.
