Spill hole size affect on descent rate

Howdy All,

I had been searching the Internet trying to find out how the size of the chute spill hole affects the descent rate and was about ready to give up and ask here on the forum when I finally found some information. I thought it might be useful for others.

I found the information in an NAR technical review (#2) from 1974. On page 26 it has a graph showing the how the size of the spill hole affects the CD of the chute.

Good find, Keith. There is also info on the effects of number and length of shroud lines in the report that agrees well with other information reported in this forum.
