Makes you glad for modern displays and processing power! Was it this one that Mike Collins related having to punch number after number into, maybe 100 or more in a row, and they all had to be correct?

I have not heard that story but I expect so. There weren't too many computers around at that time! FYI, the computer was made using entirely NOR gate integrated circuits and consumed around 60% of the world's integrated circuit manufacturing capability at the time to make them. It really was at the leading edge of the microelectronics revolution. Also, LEDs had not been invented yet so the displays were vacuum fluourescent tubes and needed around 100V to operate. Transistors could not switch that sort of voltage reliably back then so they used transistors to switch relays which provided voltage to light up the segments in the display. So each segment of each digit of each display had a transistor and a relay. There were a lot of them .
