Skidmark at Whitakers Fund!

Hi all,

I'd like all of those who will be attending the TRF meet at Whitakers to consider donating to a fund that would buy one of the new AMW Skidmark motors to fly in *someone's* rocket! The current prices of the new Skidmarks are as follows:

• 54-2550 K1000 - $160
• 75-7600 M2200 - $400

I think it would be easy for all of us as a group to all donate $10-$15 for the K reload, and someone has to have a 54-2550 case we can use!

Ok...so we currently have a 1-2 vote against donating a little bit of money to seeing a Skidmark fly.

If Ryan can make it, the current idea is to fly his Mission Impossible with a K1000 skidmark. I would handle the K1000, since I am certified for that size motor . It should not be hard scraping up the doe for this bird... maybe even Ken Allen would give a discount... and we can give any extra $$$ to the TRF fund

The M is kinda pricey, but if you want to fly it I know someone who has a rocket. The MI would be perfect as it is painted in TRF colors right now and the K isnt that much money, its just getting down there

I've flown a 54/2550 Skidmark. IMO, disappointing compared to the 75 mm loads. Also, the 54/2550 is overpriced. There is no reason for the extra price. The 75/2500 is $120 and the 54 mm motor of the same power should be the same. They used to be $106.

Alrighty folks! We have a guaranteed rocket for the K Skidmark flight! Our own Rocketmaniac will be bringing his LOC Expeditor with 54mm MMT and has volunteered to fly it!

Now all we need is money! If all the TRF members in attendance donate just $10, we can easily get to the $160 for the reload, and whatever it would cost to borrow or rent a case!

Ouch. Ryan, I don't think they went behind your back. He willbe at the launch... you maybe. So if you go to the launch, MI it is . If not, we have a back up plan. If you both want to fly a K1000... we'll borrow some dueling pistols (or buy two K's).

Yes I figured you weren't stepping on anybodies toes. That is what we love about English... you write it to say one thing, and another person reads it as another thing. Since this is not RMR, I read everything with a positive tone

I can only hope this is read with a positive tone as n3tjm does but depending on ground and wind conditions, sparky motors may not be allowed by the attending Prefects. The Whitakers launch field is a cow pasture full of tall dry grass this time of year. Normally a collective decision of the attending Prefects the day of the launch determines if sparky motors are allowed. We normally only come across this issue during EX launches. We don't want to BBQ the cows during a launch. Please don't get me wrong, I would love to see this idea go forward.
I'll be at the EX launch next weekend (April 17 & 18) and will be able to look at ground conditions then.

Doubt I'll make it up this year, but man, this sounds cool! Jetra, I noticed that was Derek Devilles V2 you posted a pic of, and I saw that vid, too. Very nice Is that the finalized soon to be certified version of skidmark?

Hey everyone,
Just got back from the Whitakers WELD launch and ground conditions were very good. A fair amount of rain in that area had greened things up a bit so we allowed sparky motors this weekend.
At the moment the 54-2550 (K1000) or the 75-7600 (M2200) Skidmark motors are not certified with Tripoli, thus can only be launched at EX launches. AMW website shows certifications pending in April. A call is being placed to TMT to acquire the official certification status of these motors. I'll post the status when I hear something.

The two Skidmarks mentioned have been certified by the National Association of Rocketry, so they should be honored at TRA launches.

I looked at both the Tripoli and NAR websites and neither site lists those motors as certified. However it's been months since either the Tripoli or NAR certified motor list has been updated. As of today 4/18/2004, AMW has updated their website showing those two motors as Certified and Available. Yesterday they were listed as Certifications Pending in April. That is why a call is being placed to TMT to verify the certification status of those motors.
