Got some great pics of my SHX-15B today at the NEFAR Bunnell Blast!

This is the replacement I built after losing my original at NARAM-46, so it's
still missing decals...

Here it is on the pad waiting for everyone to finish preping their birds.

This is going up on an AeroTech E30.

I must be getting the hang of my Canon's timing. This is one
of my best lift-off shot's ever.

This is a 15" TopFlight nylon chute.

This is probably the third or fourth E30 flight for this SHX-15B.
I've also flown it a few times on F21's.

These are the perfect motors for this bird!


Shrox-- You received lots of compliments on the design from
folks at NEFAR. I had a handful stop by the truck to ask questions
and I must've had a dozen on the flight line.

And all passed along best wishes and hopes that you'll soon get
back to producing this kit again!

Great pics. The SHX-15B is one of my favorites.

What delays did you use on the F21 and E30 flights. My E9-4 flight was a near disaster. Not nearly enough power....but I got it back in one piece...barely...

E30-7T and F21-6W.

I used an E30-4T once, but that's way too short. Six or seven seconds
is just at or after apogee for my nose weight (depending on the wind).

Shrox was kind enough to send me new decals, so I thought i'd update this thread
with the finished product...

(I wonder how Shrox would feel about someone building an upscale of this kit?) nahhh...I've got to many projects as it is.

I hate the way the decals have that edge. Until I can get them properly printed, I am only going to offer light colored kits so the decals work well.

Brian, I wondered whose picture that was, since there didn't seem to be any description of it anywhere in the guidebook. I just joined the NAR in March.

The edges on the decals seem to show up more on a flat black background. One way around that is to start with a glossy background, apply the decals, then use a matte clearcoat over the top.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the edge too. In fact, I really didn't want to post this
NC close-up simply because the difference in the 'black' is so noticable. But since
we're talking about how to fix it, I guess it's OK to let you see all the blemishes.

The decal only shows up in certain lighting and angles. Notice how the bottom half of
the decal in this shot doesn't have the brownish tint. And you can see my experiment
to correct it in the upper right corner. Black Sharpie pen to the rescue! Just
need to locate my fine pen to 'get in close'.

This was a glossy black (with a few flights on it), and I used Future to clearcoat. The Sharpie
pen solution seems to work well for me. It matches the black paint to hide the decal in all lighting
conditions and viewing angles. Plus, it's relatively simple to do if you have a steady hand.


In any case, you can't tell the difference when the rocket is on the pad!
