Every year I let my daughter pick a pattern from one of the Pumpkin Masters booklets and then we carve it together (well, I do most of it I guess but at least she helps me clean out the guts.) Here is this year's, mix of carving and scraping:

My best effort was done about 1991 shortly after these kinds of patterns became available. It was called "Carve-O-Lantern", and this design looked challenging enough for me. Unfortunately, the actual carving I did is on a VHS tape. One of these days I'm going to get around to transferring those tapes. I still have some of the stencil prints upstairs if I ever want to do another one. Here's pic I found online of it. I've carved this one twice.
