After reading a post on multiple ejection charges and the damage they might do to a shock cord I came up with an idea.

Are any of our members here...besides me...involved with technical theater?

I am! It's my job... and one of the items I can get in bulk is 1/2" black mesh fiberglass sleeve for use on theatrical light fixtures.

This sleeve is fairly heavy fiberglass cloth, black and is designed to cover the electrical wires as added insulation.

The stuff is fairly cheap at about $0.50/foot I think.

Might work to protect tubular nylon shock cord and is probably a lot more heat resistant than Kevlar.

I'd guess that your covers would work well. There is a lot of heat generated but it doesn't stay around long. Anything is better than nothing. Be sure to tape the bottom end closed. If it's a quicklink you can stretch it around the link and thread tape through the opening. Works great. Try to cover the TN 100%
