Though I've been dormant in posting on TRF for several years, many old timers probably remember me from my peak activity period of about 2000-2010 as one of the most prolific builders, reviewers and hoarders in the hobby. My activity dropped off when, literally, I had run out of space to even build small models. I'd stubbornly refused to call the thousands of accumulated unopened kits a collection--they were always my build queue (I KNOW I'm not the only one here guilty of this). While I'm still fairly active in the hobby, my wife and I recently updated our wills and she suggested that anyone looking at our basement could arguably challenge the whole "being of sound mind" clause, so I'm going through rockaholics anon's 12-step program to start decluttering. I began by selling off the cheap/easy Estes kits where I might have had 5 copies, thinning the herd to keep just 1-2.
My archeological expedition has finally reached the first tote/bin of low-numbered Semroc kits that I'll be prepping for sale over the next few days. I'll update this post by Thursday with the kits, their numbers and asking prices. First dibs here to what I'd consider the truest of Semroc fans. Anything left after a week will go on ebay to the masses.
These are some of the lowest numbers you'll ever find--most in the 6/7/8 range. As you probably know, the first 5 were held by the family, and I've picked up quite a few of those, which is why I'm freeing these up. My aspiration whenever I get around to retiring will be to build one of every kit to the highest display quality I can, pair with the lowest unopened numbered kit of each I have, and either donate to the NAR museum (if they ever get through their backlog of Estes/Stein material) or let my heirs babysit them until someone else can establish an appropriate museum honoring this great company/family.
