has anyone actually built one of these?
i used the RockSim file they offer on their website to attempt a downscale, but the fin patters look nothing like the catalog photo.

Is this an oversight?
have they supplied a bogus file?
have they changed the fin pattern since the catalog was published?

the rocksim version shows a TTW mount for the main fins, which would interfere with the inner finset (which appears to be correct).

any pics?

thanks!

I've built 3 lol! I carn't get the Rocksim file to download from EMRR so I carn't help you Im afraid.

Proberley one of the best MPR cluster out there! But it needs noseweight to fly on 7x C'6 which isn't included or talked about in the instructions.

sorry to see the aftermath of your flight...
:(

the fins on yours agree with the rocksim file, it appears. i guess th epic on the website is either from a funky angle, or the design changed since that image was created.

did the main fins have TTW tabs so that they fit alongside the inner fins, or are the main fins supposed to line up exactly with the inner fins?

Lol, its what I got for loading her up with 7x C6's without any noseweight lol.

Nope, none of the fins are TTW, there are 3 sets of fins. So dont let the pictures think that some are connected togethor. Different shape fins, are all seperate.

The Semroc Hydra VII is awesome!

I have never put together such a a fun, complex low power cluster, that literaly builds itself.

I can't help with the rocsim as I run v4.0, sorry.

Launch pic on 7 C6's...faired far better than Karl's, but I still popped a fin.

Completely repaired and ready for flying season '05

appear to be swept like yours, the pic on the semroc site shows fins with not nearly the amount of sweep the actual model has.

i went for a downscale, but it wasnt' going to work out well, so this is what i came up with

It depends on the angle of the camera, here in this pic, the Hydra VII fins look like they are not swept as much.

but holding the actual rocket in the same position as the graphic shows that the fin designs are different.

i just wanted to make sure i was making an accurate rendition, is all.

thanks for the pics!

Wow! A downsized Hydra VII!

There are several RockSim files for the Hydra VII. It is probably impossible to put half nose cones in RockSim, so the picture is not correct. Simulating a tail ring is only possible with exagerated fins to get a close CP calculation.

Most of the RockSim files for our kits are usable for fin templates, but the Hydra VII is not close. What percentage downscale are you doing? Send your address to [email protected] and we will send you a downsized set. That will get you the correct sizes. Or we can send a full-size set to get measurments.

i tried to do a 72% scaledown, but a BT50 seemed too small, and BT55 was a bit large for the 13mm cluster.

this kind of gives the same *feel*, i think.

thanks, carl!
i plan to order a full-size version Hydra VII in the near future
:)

this ought to help get rid of the excessive numbers of 13mm motors i have in my range box
:D

Carl? Weren't you supposed to have flown an upscale Hydra VII at NARAM this year? If I recall, it was to be (7) 29mm cluster as well...

Bruce was working on a 4.5X upscale of the Laser-X for NARAM, but the motor limit was J class at Great Meadow. The Laser-X was designed around a K600. Maybe it will fly at NARAM-47.

Doug,

Are you serious about an upscale of the Hydra VII?

Right now I am short on cash, and space, to build such a beast... but I have been tossing around some ideas about the upscale :D. So when I land a good job and rent my own place, then Yes... a Hydra VII would most likely be built :D.

yeah.. best i could do on short notice!

none of the cones really match the original...so maybe this is more of an artist's impression than a clone.

I think, if you carnt find a nosecone to suit, the closest is a Big Bertha one.

You've got a nice, shiny mirror like paintjob there :p

The Deuce's Wild uses the same cone...plus you can get a replacement from Semroc................................

.........or better yet, I have a spare cone I will let you have. I took my DW's cone and replaced it with the same style cone you used for your Hydra. FREE that is, just ley me know.

Oh. and my email alerts are still not working, so I must check back often, or you will have to email me. :)

a different size than Estes BT60.
not sure about the fliskits tubing.
the NC from the Quest Falcon looked about right, but it doesn't fit the Estes tubing.
I really like the way it looks so i'm going to have to pass, regardless.

Thanks, though!
that's very generous.

The only tubing I have found strange is the Quest range. I carn't find a replacement nosecone for my Big Rage, and it isn't the same size as any Estes tube.

The Fliskits Deuce's Wild nosecone is excactly the same as the Hydra VII, I remember swapping their nosecones around and they couldn't be told apart, apart from the colour difference.

Im still in the process of making my 24mm version :D

i flew it today!
7 x C6-7 altimeter reports 1075' altitude...seems a bit low, but the extra weight of the altimeter battery might have made a bit of a difference.

Flashpan ignition, all 7 motors lit, arrow-straight boost, recovered perfectly!
