The next SEARS rocket launch is March 31st 2007 at Samson, AL. The events will include Bob Hewes Tribute, Bring a Friend and Night Launch.
Bob Hewes Tribute: Bob Hewes was a SEARS member before he died from cancer. His wife donated his huge rocket collection to SEARS and they were auctioned to raise money for TARC. Each flight you wish to make in honor of Bob will be on a green flight card and will be entered for the prize pool drawing. For each of those flights please make a donation of a $1 or more to the TARC fund. You are welcome to fly any Bob Hewes rocket you may have, but the flight can be any rocket.
Bring A Friend: Any new flier or out of area flier will be entered for a draw from the prize pool. We welcome any TRF fliers who can make the trip.
The Bob Hewes and Bring a Friend events end at 3 PM. Enter your zip here to get directions to the launch. We setup at 8:30 AM and launch from 9 AM to 4 PM. You can find more launch details here. Come to watch or better yet, bring some rockets. If you are a beginner we will help you get started. The whole family is welcome.
We are planning a model rocket night launch in addition to the regular launch. We will pack up the regular launch gear at 4:00. You are welcome to join us for supper at 5:00 at some local establishment. We can return to the field at 6:00 to setup and prep for the night launch. Sunset is at 7 PM. Just prior to sunset I plan to launch my 54mm Applewhite Stealth on a K550 to catch the end of the high power waiver. After sunset, all rockets must have some method of illumination through out the entire flight. Fliers and spectators should have a personal glow stick or glow necklace on their person. Also flashlights are encouraged. Use some red film over the lens. I will bring extra red film. The red film is so we can maintain our night vision. It is available at Pep Boys and is made to repair tail lights. We will be launching model rockets. Model rockets are defined as: One pound (453 grams) rockets or less (including motor/engine weight); that are made of paper, wood, or breakable plastic; with 113 grams or less of propellant. We will not have a waiver for high power. Note: pay special attention to parking and driving on the farm at night. We must not make any excursions on the sod.
