Are most of you that are having issues with delayed mail in the eastern US. Because I haven't experienced any delayed mail. I've received packages from Fl , Ar and Co in the normal 3 days. The only reason I can think of for there being no delays is our proximity to Las Vegas.

Most of the issues are due to living in certain populated areas. I know I had issues with thick padded envelopes full of masks we made for many moths. Such packages won't run through the high-peed scanners.
We live near DC which has a huge amount of mail and worse when you look at more of the population is shopping online.
A relative sent us an envelope 1st class from East GA 10 days ago. It has been sitting in an OH mail center for 4 days, waiting for its trip down to Alexandria.
No trend one can follow to when or where your mail will travel.

The current damage done to the USPS has nothing to do with "selling their soul to get Amazon deliveries". Amazon has contracted with USPS to deliver the last mile for years now. This is specifically because USPS is required to deliver to every tiny town, village, and rural outpost in the country. These are places where the other big delivery services shun because they are not profitable. So you have to reasonably ask..."what's so different about this year?" The answer is pretty obvious. Significant increase in package volume due to increase in online ordering, rolling staff shortages due to COVID, and the sabotage initiated by the current PM General.

While the first 2 reasons are still a pain because of the delivery delays they cause, the third reason is the most insidious. Privatizing virtually every aspect of government has long been the holy grail of a certain segment of the ruling/business class and the USPS has definitely been on their radar for quite some time. It's now easier than ever for them to point to the USPS and claim "look how broken it is. Now's the time to make it a private company so it can be run like a business!" Not unlike the politician who runs for office on the platform of "Government is broken and private companies can do things much better. Just elect me to Government and I'll prove to you how broken it is."

I live in Grand Junction, CO. I order from a lot from Apogee located in COS, about 5 hrs drive from here. Why does my order need to travel to PDX ??? Gross inefficiency or deliberate sabotage of the entire system, take your pick!

My 6 UPS shipments did well.
When I was doing all the labels online there was a choice to pay extra for GREEN delivery.
I guess that my gift to FL would go in a diesel truck to a UPS center, Jet to Orlando, diesel truck to Ft Meyer UPS center ( or by truck all the way to FL) then travel the last 5 miles to our daughter's home via a hybrid. Awesome!

To take priority of Amazon,UPS and FedEx deliveries over my Priority Mail box is inexcusable.
My priority mail took 6 days to go from Alexandria, VA to Merrifield.. I could have walked there in half a day. Another 4 to arrive at the MD USPS center.
I was in the union and union workers slowdown work to get more hired.
But my Xmas card to my rocket vendor, mailed same day, arrived in just 4 days.
Inexcusable, no just the American way, go for the money. Until Congress allows the usps to operate under their own management and kill the law about funding pension ahead of time, this was the only way to survived. You want to insure delivery, certified mail, return receipt. Normal priority mail is just first class. All it does is put it into special package so usps mail carrier will hopefully put it on truck ahead of others , a visual reminder. Or just used UPS, I feel sorry for my fellow government workers since it is congress fault which idiots like us keep reelecting them..

I don't blame the local delivery guys at all; they're doing pretty well, once the package reaches them. Many packages move through the system quite quickly, so we know the system is capable of working. The problem is probably in the attitude of the distribution managers, and maybe in the relationship between the union and those managers: don't know because I've never been around them, but I've been around other union/management issues.

hobie1dog, you got a great callsign; did you request it specifically?

I can tell you for sure that they're not doing FIFO. I have stuff that's been stuck in a particular transfer station in MD for a month, and another item that was ordered just before Christmas that went through the same transfer station last week and was delivered today, same delivery option, too.

Frustrating, at best.

Makes one wonder how many deliveries of maintenance meds are languishing with little hope of a speedy resolution.

Have to feel sorry for him...stuck on a street that is all ice. But he still should I have gone and get the package
I used to consult for UPS. Every year in January, Anchorage would suffer lots of vehicle accidents when the city froze up. I wonder if that’s still the case these days.

All the Black Friday orders I placed made it here before Christmas.
Includes Madcow, WildMan, and Mach1.
The Mach1 order arrived early morning on the 24th.
Only order outstanding is a batch of white lightning QJets, but I expected as much.
The motors cannot fly by air so they must ship by boat from the west coast.
ETA is Jan.5.

People have to STOP saying "Don't blame the post office", and here is why;

To the best of my knowledge, the post office is still charging rates for overnight, express, 2-day, 3-day delivery. They are charging a premium for these services, services that simply do not exist.

If I was on here selling rockets that I didn't have, you would be all over me like stink on a skunk.

Until they get themselves straightened out, they should only sell parcel post, at parcel post rate, with no delivery guarantees whatsoever. That way buyers could make an informed decision between USPO, UPS and Fedex.

Have you read the fine print? Some of their services are entitled to a money back guarantee if they’re late, some aren’t. If you pay for a refund eligible service, you’ll get one (at least in my case with a time sensitive work item they paid out).

I’ve had multiple priority and over night packages show on time through USPS in the last few weeks. I’ve also had some that didn’t. I’ve had UPS and FedEX come late as well, despite their claims. What should they do “until they straighten themselves out”?

That said, all three have done well the last few months in my area, despite the added challenges of COVID and the holidays. I’m not going to lose sleep over a package that came a few days late.

I'll simplify it. USPO is selling (and charging for) services that they cannot perform a majority of the time. I don't want the hassle of getting money back, I want the service. If you as a business owner sold a service that you knew you could not perform most of the time, you would be arrested for fraud.

Yes, I understood your point the first time.

Have you actually read any of the banners on all three carriers sites explaining that things have a very high chance of being delayed?

Have you considered that the USPS has to deliver everywhere and can’t turn people down while FedEx and UPS have turned down retailers with high volume, causing them to load the USPS further?

I'll simplify further. Don't charge for premium services you cannot deliver even close to a majority of the time. Selling a 2-day express package for 10 times the going rate is NOT ok because you show me a warning saying it's probably not gonna happen.

Do you have data to back up any of your claims? The majority of my personal USPS packages and those I’ve received at work have been on time. No less anecdotal than anything you’ve brought up. We’ve had pretty equal delays with FedEx and to be honest I’ve had stock and tooling show up in two days despite paying for overnight shipping through UPS many more times than with any other carrier.

If you want to simplify further, I’d really appreciate it.

As the recipient, you cannot apply for a refund, only the shipper can apply for a refund. Now try getting the vendor to file a request for a refund, I think they have better things to do with their time.

What are you having shipped priority mail express? That’s the guaranteed service. When we need things immediately for work, we use that or FedEx overnight. The refund process isn’t very painful, there’s timestamps on delivery... not like they can fight it, nor have I experienced that. Very unlikely you’d use this from a rocketry vendor, but in case you do really need that kit tomorrow, I’d assume any decent vendor would refund you much the same as they’d replace a damaged product.

So, unless you’re paying considerably more to guarantee it over night, there’s no “guarantee” and no refund. This has always been the case with priority. If you can’t read the fine print or endless notices about mail being delayed, you’re free to act surprised when your mail isn’t there in three days.

I was just clarifying that the shipper is the only one that can ask for a refund. I made no comment otherwise, so don’t create an argument I never made.

I was pointing out that it’d be unlikely you’d encounter a scenario where you’d need to request a refund from, as you mentioned, a rocketry vendor.

All I’m saying is priority has always been a service that prioritizes those packages over the standard mail. The quoted times aren’t guarantees and are based off average data (as the fine print has always stated). I get the frustration, but I find the claims to be over blown as the USPS has been a hot topic on both sides of the aisle and it’s poor performance is being used to point the finger both ways. Everything is jacked up and people are shipping more things than ever, so it’s hard to think it reasonable to single out the USPS and claim that they’re defrauding their customers.
