Okay Guys and gals!

I've been on this forum for a while now and I haven't done much build threads,

Its time for a build thread of an Semi-scale SLS BT-80 sized!

SO I know my SLS is not 100% scale, it is a semi sport-scale. The SLS will be the Block 1 version

I'll be skipping some steps

Okay so the obligatory parts picture!

SLS Parts.jpg

In the picture you'll see 2 BT-80, BT-55 and one BT-60.
BT-50 to BT-80 centering rings (engine mount) and two BT55-BT-60 (SRB skirts)
An Orion Capsule shroud and SRBs
BT-80 Coupler, Bt-80-BT-60 reducer with a taper of 2.5",
thrust ring, kevlar, a dowel and a 24" parachute,
the coaster is from Panera (I work at one so I took some home) I plan to use it.

Dry fit SLS.jpg

Dry fitting to see the outcome and have cut the BT-60 to size,
I've added scotch tape to give it more of a scale look, I'll be using the same on the SRB's.

I have a little of experience on using tape for adding detail I made a BT-60 Saturn V:

That's it for today!

Okay so here's a picture of the cones turned by Sandman, a BT-60 Orion Shroud and 2 BT-55 SRB cones.

Here's some more detail on the shroud, my phone camera sucks!

So I already glued the engine mount! It's a 24mm engine mount.
I've also made the SRB skirts and dry fitted them they look great now to trim and get the them to stay in place.

The skirts I made them from an old manila folder and the template I made with the payloadbay tool https://www.payloadbay.com/index.php?page=Tools&action=TRANS.

I am trying to finish my SLS before July 16th for my event our club HPRC is having. https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?132750-Wings-Over-Miami-Shoots-for-the-Stars!

Very cool build.
Should look great.
Gordon does nice work as well.

Thanks, I like a little challenge,
Yes he does!
The Saturn V on my first post the cone is from him too!
I also have a Nike Hercules missile I've built I still have to add the decals to. Awesome work of his!

Hey guys and gals!
Sorry I haven't posted anything these past week, I've been busy with school, work, and getting ready for the Wings Over Miami Air Museum Shoots For the Stars! Event,
Me and HPRC are excited for this,
Okay enough ramble, the SLS build,
I've glued the engine mount on, I've filled the cones and I primed the main booster.
Sorry no pictures yet!

The build is done!
All I need to put the NASA meatballs on it.
Its a 2.6" (BT-80) its an approximate 1/124th sport scale.
Its designed to fly on 24mm engines. It uses mini-rails instead of launch lugs.

Will it be stable without fins? Or are you adding clear fins or flame fins like on the Dr Zooch models?

Yes, It will have fins!
I plan to give it clear fins!
Till then it currently it has balsa fins!
They slide in the SRB boosters.

Very nice - someone needs to kit that.

Why Thank You!

This is me thinking out-loud:
Is it possible in making a 1/100th semi scale (or close) with the Estes Little Joe II Body tube ( 3.42 in)?
