I was thinking of sewing one up for this.... black with a Jolly Roger embroidered in. Mom's got one of those fancy embroidery machines that she loves toying with. She could put just about any design on the chute. I'm doing it regardless of whether you want me to or or not;)....but if it turns out half decent it's yours. If you'd rather use what you have, that's fine too, I'll keep it for myself. :D

Oh Lord... I would LOVE a Mom Foose custom Pirate chute! But you better promise it will never get caught in a tree!

I have loved seeing your other works but this one tops them all. I used to be a foremast hand on a barquentine and I still devour every nautical tale I can find. It resonates with me.

I don't know if this is one you would ever consider kitting. I have no idea how much it would cost to produce. I do know that it would be cheap at twice the price and that it would instantly move to the very first place in my build qeue.

I see lots of rockets on here that capture my imagination. I have never seen one that has done that more so than this one.

Its magnificent. Its beautiful.

BRAVO!!!!

Wow John! That is quite an endorsement coming from you... THE rocket building machine:D. A kit? Probably never unless I win the lottery. If I printed exactly what decals were needed to do the rocket, incorporating some into others (Skulls printed onto the fin decals instead of separate) and used up every bit of space on the decal sheet, it would still take about 4-5 8 1/2" X 14" sheets of decal paper. The going price amongst the decal makers is about $12-$15 per sheet that size and these do go heavy on some of the expensive inks (white, chrome & metallic gold). So now you are talking at least $60-$70 worth of decals alone:eek:. Then theres the fact that there are copywrited images on there that I cannot sell:(. I DID consider making a decal set based on the Storm Caster... But there is still the copywrite issue.

Sorry, and again THANK YOU for the compliments!

Scott, that rocket is one "sweet booty". It looks awesome. Any plans on bringing it to the shop for a closer look? Let me know.

I didn't really expect you to but you can't blame me for trying.

I still stand by what I said. To be, it would be cheap at twice the price even after factoring in the legal costs for the infringment case.

Its great.

Scott, that is fantastic!

Not only are your building skills second to none, but the ideas you come up with and the way you incorporate them into your models is amazing.

Bravo!

Did those ever get NAR-certified?

To Scott, for John Lee's benefit: What about a kit, or even a parts list with decals, that didn't include the infringing images?

Thanks John!

The thing with the decal is that the whole rocket was based on the girl, and SHE is the major copywrited image... It would be like a Red Max without the skull & crossbones:(. Seeing as the guy charges $300 for a pencil drawing of his work I would imagine licensing would be a killer!

And as far as I've been told as recently as yesterday, Quest is still pushing forward on the motors and new line of kits:D. Unlike the 18mm Ds, cases of these motors HAVE been made and ARE being tested... It just costs money and there is not a whole bunch of it floating around in the industry right now.

Then you end up with a decal sheet that looks like this. :)

Yeah, not quite the same is it? I'm sure some of the internet ones would not be an issue (coins, rope, jewels etc.) because of all the modifications that have been done and they are kinda generic, but she would be more identifiable and easy to report to the original artist. I'm not trying to profit on anyones intellectual property other than my own;).

Scott, Fantastic work!!!!! Goes to show that a 3-4fnc rocket can be made into something truly amazing with time, patience and hard work. All I can say is wow that is cool.

I know what you mean about the font sites I go looking for one specific thing and download a dozen and forget what I was after in the first place.

Scott,

The rocket looks great!

You truely come up with fantastic ideas.

I can't wait to see your next rocket 'concept'. ;)

You've sure come a long way since CHOPS. :D

Bob,
I may have to do a comemorative "Chops" decal set. You and I will be the only ones who get them... Or want them for that matter:rolleyes:.

Scott,

What a wonderful example of how to take a rather simple looking 4 finned rocket and turn it into an imaginative work of art! :)

Simply wonderful. I love it!

Here's my lame attempt at keeping up with my end of the build thread.

Becasue I'm a little further behind in my finishing, I thought I'd give you the roadmap of where I'm going with my rocket.

This is the original sketch that I made when trying to figure out how to use my special decal (the one that started it all).

Also included are the color chips from Tamiya's website.

This is the font used for the Valkyrie text. The decal looks super excellent and has gold foil letters with a black outline.

The posted color chips really do not do the actual paint color justice...

Psst Jim, its only 3 fins...;)

Thanks for the props Mr. Fliskits!:D

I was thinking that since John Lee reacted so positively to the nautical theme because of his personal experience on a ship, it might work for him even without that particular girly pirate girl decal.

Cool! The kits are what I'm most interested in. They were designed by this guy I know who designs rockets that are really neato.

...even CHOPS.
:D

Watch out, Scott. Jess might bring a sword to the Blue-Gray Regional next month.

Beautiful rocket.

Can't wait to see Kevin's artwork selection. :)

Minor boo boo on my part. Was in a rush to keep up and had a small issue with runs on two of the fins. Is only the base coat and it looks like I can wet sand it out fairly easily. Just puts me back a little as I get it fixed.

Hey! I love the rocket, really I do, but don't think that I don't appreciate the artwork too!

It reminds me of an old sea chanty: "She was round in the counter and bluff in the bow, to me wey, hey, blow the man down; I pulled in all sail and called weigh enough now, give me some time to blow the man down."

Nothing wrong with a bluff bow.

Now THAT was a good rhyme:D.

I am actually using some connections to try to find someone to draw a sexy pirate for me for a set fee. It would then be MY property. :D

All together now:

For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow....;)

How about Frank Cho?:D Any connections with him? Does work for Marvel, Image, and several indies and supposedly lives in Elkridge, MD. That guy can draw a female like nobody's business.

I know of him and that was the first person I enquired about with a friend of mine, he went to Maryland while I was there along with John Stanton. Both GREAT cartoonists, but probably too "Big Time" now to draw and ink a pirate for $100 and no licensing fees.:( They frequent a shop in College Park... I may take a drive down there next week.

Yeah, I imagine he's a bit too high profile ATM....I figured there might be an odd chance he was a customer at the 'Works or a friend of a friend. Usually comic shops know of lesser known, up n coming, and local comic/cartoon artist trying to earn some extra cash, gain exposure, etc. Heck, maybe someone here has the talent. Offer a Fake Wulf prize or something.;)

I'd take a set of CHOPS decals. :)

I think CHOPS would be a good flier on the Quest E12/F12 motors. ;)
