Well, before we went on vacation my wife got a call from a head hunter. Well, it looks like she may be working for a hospital in Normal, IL. We will have to go there for her pee in the cup exam and for her inservice/training. Does anyone know of any good Hobby Shops I can go visit while I have my days free? I have Birthday $$ looking to spend. :D
Thanks!

Be aware of the cops on the highway there! We see them every single time we drive through there; one for northbound and one for southbound traffic.

I can't recall anything being there, but down the road about 50 minutes in Chamapaign is the most awesome hobby store - Slots and Wings. Ask Pippen, but they about 1/3 of their store is stratch and dent and negotiable on prices. Check on TRFA for my scores, but well worth the trip there.

Not sure about stores in Normal, IL but I concur with AKPilot. The cops here in IL have long forgotten the "to serve and to protect". They are here to help fund the state budget...

This may be my first post on the Forum but I have been lurking for many years and since I have lived in Normal for almost 40 years I feel fairly qualified to answer the question.

Besides Hobby Lobby I have not found any other hobby store in Normal but right next store Bloomington and they do have a hobby store (Hobby town?) Right down town. It's been a while since I've been in but don't expect to much. Champaign or Peoria may have some better offerings (We are 1/2 way in between on I-74). Both Champaign and Peoria have ative clubs also.

I'm pretty sure there is one other forum member in town but can't recall his name.

Let me know if you have other questions. I can point you to a launch area that's about 900' x 900' if you want.

klkiese,

Welcome (even if you've been here for a while I can still welcome you;)) to TRF,

We're glad you're here. Don't be afraid to most more often. Everyone knows something others do not, and not necessarily something about rockets!

Rocket hobby shops in Illinois are hard to come by, most of them are RC. Champaign has a few shops, there is a pet shop that sells motors up to G (for ridiculous prices), but I can't remember the name of it. Also, if your in to RC, Tower Hobbies is there also (I haven't found it though). If your there on the 2nd or 4th Saturday of the month, the local club, CIA, will probably be launching in Dodds Park if the weather is nice.

Up north there is Dynamic Balsa in the thriving metropolis of Leanore, but he mostly has RC stuff too. I've ordered some motors from him (including some HPR), but they are special order only. He also carrys a limited selection of LPR motors, kits, and tubes. Half of his shop is also paintball supplys if your interested. Also, if you go into Ottawa there is A. World Hobby, he carry's some older LPR stuff. The last time I went in there he had a Maxi Brute V2 from Estes. But, he likes to talk, so only go in there if you have a lot of time on your hands.

Question for those who live in Illinois...

What are the property and income taxes like? What about your plates for your car? Here in Minnesota they are based on the value of your car. Mine are only $100 per vehicle each year (but then mine cars are 10 years old). My sister-in-law got a new Toyota mini van and her plates were over $350 for this year....

We thought the roads and signage in Illinois was well done. Easy to follow...but the State Patrol do have ugly white and yellow vehicles...

Thanks!

Hi,

I can only tell you what mine are:

Property Tax: 2,800 on 140,000 house
Income Tax: 3% of Federal AGI. $4000 deduction if married, $2000 for dependant.
Liscense: $75 - $85 last time I got a sticker but I think it's going up.

Taxes on Beer, Soda and Bubble Gum all went up recently. (along with a ton of other 'fees')

If you are planning on getting a new car do so before you move the county has a use tax that you will get charged when you buy a car.
