My dad was in elementary or middle school with her in the Bay Park area of San Diego.

The entertainers of this time period I've been getting that unsettling feeling are on the verge of passing away nowadays.
Sad but a friend of mine and I were talking about her just yesterday about her appearance on Seinfeld.
I have vague memories of watching an episode of The Hollywood Palace on B/W TV and seeing a tall, statuesque card girl briefly. I think that was the start of her rise to national prominence.

A friend on Facebook mentioned that at that time in his youth, she succinctly cleared up any possible gender issues he might have had.
Daughter Tahnee is equally stunning, resemblance is more like sisters (or even twins) than mother-daughter.
Raquel was on the short list for the role of Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island. This beautiful picture is from the audition:

My mind wonders: what might have been!
But, Dawn Wells did an awesome job being the humble farm girl and I don't know if Raquel Welch could have done quite that role. And Tina Louise was supposed to be "the big star" which may explain the casting choice.

Dawn was perfect. Raquel was smokin’, but they were wise to choose Dawn.
now I'm going to see if I can get a DVD of her exercise video that she did or maybe even an old VHS of it. Raquel stayed in very good shape all of her life.
