Rest in peace Colin Cantwell (1932-2022), who worked on both Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and the original Star Wars Episode 4. I have on occasion wondered if the Nike Smoke, with its long snout, was an inspiration for the X-Wing, but apparently not - it was a game of darts in a pub:
