Hi all,
I ran across this video this evening. It's a video of Alan Shepard's Freedom 7 flight with the views of the camera on Shepard, the front control panel, and a view of the spacecraft's orientation all synchronized. I thought it was pretty cool.
While, of course, I've understood academically about America's first suborbital flight and that it was only 15 minutes, it wasn't until I watched this video and "flew along with Alan" that I really got a grasp of just how short it was! (The mission lasted less time that my salmon cooking in the oven tonight!) Shepard only has time to do a few short maneuver tests before the retro rockets fire! There was no time to "enjoy the moment" at all.
Thought yall would like it.
