This LaserX, built in the 70s, that got crushed in storage in the 80s, had a 8-yr-old kid try to make it two rockets and subsequently break it again in the 90s, is now having that same 8-yr-old restore it to the way his late father built it in the 70s.
Thanks to the power of the internet and finally being able to identify what this rocket is.

It was rather interesting uncovering the original paint. A light blue, orange and black combo.

And here is the primer and where I found out I needed to fillet the wings a bit more. And since this was one always lost wings, I used a jb weld.

Thanks for posting this. I bought this kit from a vendor approximately a year ago while at a club launch, and have been eyeballing to build in last few months.

Thanks. It was originally flat black as so I’ve held off primer if it and instead filled the gouges obtained from the storage bin.
Here is where she sits now after fillets and one more coat of white primer.

Very nice kit. It has the parts I’m using for the rebuild. I had to use the ST-5120 body tube and shroud from the kit since the original were just gone. I will be scanning and recreating some of the decades though since some were originally black and the new kit is red.

Two coats of white primer. I think it’s finally time to hit this one up with paint.
I found the right blue, but not the right orange.

Another coat of blue needed. Maybe a slightly darker shade.
