And at that price even with shipping it still is less costly than my time to "mill" regular salt to a fine powder. This technique may be the answer to layer bonding issues. What is the oven he uses? A commercial convection/oven?

Yes, that’s what he says in the comments. Someone suggested using a thermocouple in the salt by the part to track the actual temp. That seems like a good idea.
