What time does the event start on Sat? I haven't been able to find any info on MDRA's website.

Nathan, no that just says the start time on Friday, and the end time on Sunday. It does NOT list when launches start on Saturday or Sunday for example, nor when launches end on Friday or Saturday.

Nice trailer and love the setup!

I need to get a good trailer. I was planning to bring 5 rockets for this weekend, but I am standing here this morning and realizing they won't fit in my truck. I think I am going to have to ditch one.

Thanks! I’ve had this trailer for 15 years or so. Its towed my giant scale airplanes to events all over the country and helped me move several times. Really comes in handy for all sorts of stuff.

We have 16 rockets in there now, 6 or 7 of which are 6” larger flying on Ms if weather permits.

Good point.
Every MDRA launch that I have been to at the Higgs Farm field in 10 years has had a scheduled start time of 9 am. After Red Glare they will move to the sod farm field and the monthly launches will start at noon Saturday and 9 am Sunday.

Jnmiller, thanks. That wasn't easy to find, and wasn't on the main Red Glare page. :)

Back home now after two days at Red Glare. All I can say is WOW, First rockets I've seen fly on larger than H motors.
Friday was too windy to fly high and clouds reduced Waiver to 3000feet. Later clouds cleared but with winds aloft at 35kns waiver only went to 5000feet.
Saturday started breezy but calmed down with clear blue sky. Waiver was 17,000 feet.

There were many L1, L2 & L3 Certification successes and a few fails.

Great day to fly and great event run by MDRA.

congratulations on L2
Any photos of the cert flight

Awesome day at Red Glare! Scott S had some really impressive big sparkies and I got my L2, among many other impressive flights. Thank you to Dave Weber and the MDRA crew!

I had an amazing day today at Red Glare. I put in 5 flights, and would have had 6 had I not had a misfire. With so many people, the launch cadence seemed to average one per hour. The weather could not have been much more perfect. All in all, it was absolutely worth the 2 hour drive from northern Virginia for me. I've added a sample of photos from today.

Awesome event as always, MDRA! So many great flights! Many thanks to Dave Weber for officiating my successful L2 (5.5" LOC Patriot on J450DM)!

It was a weird windy day. We had issues getting the staff to set up some 1/4" rod pads so we could launch some of our rockets that use 1/4" launch lugs. They set up one pad for us, but unfortunately there were several people competing for it, and my wife had to wait 2 cycles to get hers on the pad, only for there to be some sort of glitch and no continuity (igniter didn't burn and was intact, clips were firmly attached with my double-checking them, so I dunno what was wrong), and we had to leave earlier than I would have liked to visit relatives on the way out. I would ask that they have more than one 1/4" pad available (I talked to a couple of of the staff, and was told variously that they had either 2 or 4 rods available but not set up).

I get that most people flying mid-power and up rockets use rails, and not 1/4" rods, but our rockets weren't equipped with buttons and retrofitting the rockets looks to be challenging (Estes Super Big Bertha, Executioner). I had been itching to try out some F15-6s in my Executioner, as trying them at my normal field is just begging to lose the rocket. :(

Seeing all of the certifications occur gave me a lot of motivation to start building my Zephyr for my own Level 1! I've got to finish setting up the hobby workshop downstairs in our new house.

My attendance at ESL 277 in Feb convinced me to add rail buttons to my 2.6" T-LOC before Red Glare. Adding rail buttons to mid-power rockets is pretty easy: you can just screw them into the airframe with some CA in the hole. Obviously doesn't help you for this Red Glare, though.

Congrats to all the newly certified rocketeers! I think they announced there were 56 cert attempts this weekend. Amazing!

I was lucky enough to have some great flights, despite the wind. They included two flights of the new 8" Goblin with a 4 x 75mm mount. First flight was on 4 x AT J450 DMs to about 3000 feet and then cranked her up on 4 x K1000s to 9000 feet at .9 MACH. The Goblin held up well. Also got my AGM-Pike up on an N2220 this morning, which was a really fun flight.

Those two Goblin flights were definitely highlights of my Red Glare. I missed the announcement on the second flight; the 4 combined Blue Thunder motors made a beautiful flame!

I was pretty sure I knew who you were based on your rockets; I wish I'd made time to stop and introduce myself. I've definitely appreciated your contributions here.

I LOVED that 4x J450DM flight! I flew my L2 cert on ONE of those in my 5.5" Patriot. Four of 'em was a beautiful sight (and sound)! Great work!

i must have been out on a recovery when you flew the Goblin but the Pike looked great!

Here are photos of 3/5 of my launches, courtesy of Ken Potter. Thanks to Ken for getting these uploaded so quickly! It was a pretty low-stress launch day for me with the recovery zone being so huge (and the wind being so light) really putting my mind at ease.

Not the biggest rockets there that day, but I was very pleased!

Estes Doorknob, E30-7
Madcow 2.6" DX3, F67-6
Estes Executioner, E20-4

(I need to get some motors with different propellants than White Lightning to spice things up!)

Does anyone have the info for the professional photographer that was at the launch that had the remote camera setup at the away cell?
