Rear Ejection and Chute Protection/Deployment

I want to build a rocket that uses rear ejection for the recovery system. Does the fwd motor mount centering ring act as heart shield for the parachute? Do you wrap the shock cord and parachute arount the mount or just pack it between the mount's centering ring. If you wrap the cords around the mount will it spin and tangle?

I'm sure there are a bunch of different ways to do rear ejection, but I have come up with a rather simple technique that combines rear ejection with a piston for chute protection. Take a look at my post in the ugly rocket thread:
