Surveyor 1 Landing on the Moon - CBS News Coverage - Thursday, June 2, 1966, 1:17:36 AM EST

A few months after Ranger 7, I saw a blurb in a magazine - probably 'Popular Mechanics', that you could order the book 'Ranger VII Photographs of the Moon', for $5 postage included from the Government Printing Office. A few weeks later I got a large format (11"x17") several hundred-page volume with all the photos on glossy pages. Still have it in a box somewhere. It's neet.

Excellent!

Watched 2 of the videos, great stuff.

Thanks

I checked that book out of the library at SDSM&T. It was cool. There's a video floating around YouTube somewhere that animates the final moments of the flight.

The first video posted above uses it in sync with the authentic video of mission control. I think I posted the link to just the modern animation here somewhere, but that may have been years ago on the 50th anniversary of the Surveyor 1 landing. Here it is again:

Also, a previous thread of mine on the same subject:

Plus these which I recently found and are fascinating. GREAT scans of the original reports, something which isn't common:
