Alrighty peeps. It’s that time of the month again. The QCRC monthly launch will be upon us this weekend. Unfortunately, your friendly neighborhood Prefect had some unscheduled problems arise, so I probably won’t make it out there, but hey! Fly em if ya got em…
I know Dave has a couple of awesome motor choices for the launch. Maybe he’ll tell us more…

Oh yeah, I have that sweet K480 just itching to go up in one of these fine rockets. I didn't really think much of the K480 until I saw the stats on that motor - it's really a K545 and 77% K. And all for just one short spacer in the 54-2800 casing. I'm trying to finish up another rocket but it's not looking good - I just got a new project starting tomorrow and they're already asking me when I can work this weekend. I'll try to get there early enough to help with setup Saturday, but I won't be there Sunday.

No good deed goes unpunished...

I see MWP is listed as October 29th and 30th. Has it been changed to a 2 day launch? This was listed on WM site.

If you didn't make it out today (6/19), you missed a great day of rocketing!! The winds picked up a bit in the afternoon but the breeze was a welcome relief from the heat. There were a few Level 1 and at least one Level 2 certification flights today - congratulations to all who certified and better luck next time if you tried but didn't make it this time!

Now for my sad story. My Concept 98 decided it wanted to re-kit itself today under thrust on the K480. Whatever happened was somewhere around Max Q at about 4,000'. Sadly the AV bay and my 2 RRC3's were lost. Right now RRC3s are hard to come by.

I'll leave you with a few pictures of what's left of the airframe and check out that ripped Kevlar harness! I've never seen that before 😲

Based on Jason's video, did the motor burn through and pressurize the booster, kicking off the top section?

When it happened my first thought was it was a CATO, but strangely the motor casing was perfectly intact. All I had to do was dig out 2 inches of Bureau county topsoil from the casing. Tim and John thought the apogee charge went off. I'm still leaning toward the shear pin letting go. I'm mostly just bummed I lost two RRC3s.

Had a great time at the launch.
Flew my upscaled Estes Sentinel (can be seen on the pad in the above video) had a great flight to 3670ft on AT-I161. Thanx to John for letting me use your tracker. Thanx to Tim for setting me up with a new tracker.
See you at the next launch
