If we don't get any rain, we'll have to postpone the annual NEFAR Bunnell Blast!

Weather has been too dry, and fire danger is significant.

We got some rain in Daytona today, hopefully Bunnell is getting some as well. I am looking forward to the Bunnell Blast, it would be unfortunate if it was cancelled

The KBDI for the Bunnell District dropped only 1 point and Flagler
County added 9 points. The index (as of the 11/3 report) is 637,
well over the 600 threshold. We'll need more than Tuesday's dribble...

Thursday's forecast calls for 80% chance of T-showers (same bunch
threatening the Shuttle launch).

The good news is Tuesday's rain dropped the Seminole County
index by 62 points, so Saturday's ROCK launch is more likely to
proceed as scheduled!

Well maybe I'll drive a bit further....

I'm seriously wanting to challenge you for that NEFAR D altitude record, and I've got just the bird for it.

Funny you should mention that....

Gary hasn't updated the web site (still), but in July I flew my
Cherokee D on a D12-5 to set the bar at 1,064.

I also flew my Arapaho E on a E9-7 to 1,260.

As mentioned, those were just to get my name on the board. For
my next D club record attempt, I'm planning an 18mm minimum diameter
flight with an Aerotech D24. For the E, I'll likely to move to my AT 24-40
case, but haven't really planned anything.

I'm tentative to attend Bunnell Blast. Good thong there was a heads up regarding the fire hazard conditions. Hopefully all is good for the event.

For those that may not have heard ....

A regular launch will held at the NEFAR site on Saturday - assuming the drought index remains less than 600.

Bunnell Blast is being postponed. It will probably be rescheduled for December.

So no night or Sunday launch? I work this weekend so I can't make it anyway. It looks like I can make a December launch.

Does anyone know if the Bunnell Blast still a go for December 11-12?????

I checked the drought index today. It is 632. It's not looking good.

Ohhh well. Our Embry-Riddle group was looking to put up a few High power flights on Sunday. Any updates as the weekend draws closer would be greatly appreciated.

No Bunnell Blast this weekend. Check the website for details.

Ironically, it looks like it'll rain in Bunnell on Sunday.

Can your Embry-Riddle rocket group tell your Embry-Riddle Cessna pilot group to stop overflying the launch site when we're launching?!
:bangpan:

Yeah, I will try to look into that. I am actually one of the pilots, and I just do rockets as a side project. I havent looked if the FAA publishes a NOTAM for the launch on those days...I'd like to find it if they do. Anyways, it is a good issue to bring up. Maybe we need to create a "saturday no fly zone" around the launch site.

The reason why you would see Riddle aircraft overflying the field is probably due to the fact that Bunnell is in the vicinity of Flagler and Ormond airports. They are both popular landing/takeoff practice airports, with multiple aircraft leaving and departing at around 1000 ft. Daytona is so close, that we rarely have the need to climb above 2000 ft en route, at most. The launch site is also not under controlled airspace.

No, the reason we see these guys/gals is because they read the NOTAM or hear
ATC chatter about a window or fly over and notice activity. They have been
known to circle or come back repeatedly trying to get a good look at what's
going on.

It's become such a problem over the years, some of us have privately joked
about making a banner that reads "GO AWAY! Or be fired upon".

Very frustrating as a flyer especially if you're burning electronics on the pad.
Even more so for the LCO as you hear the grumblings from all the flyers. (I've
experienced both scenarios first hand).
