And that, boys and girls, is where scrap metal comes from. Isn't that a cute bundle of aluminum? Oh yes it is! Yes it is!

Except.... A very good friend of mine took something very much like that pile of scrap metal and turned it into something really special. Seriously! - a 500 cubic inch top fuel drag racing V-8 with half of it completely blown away, and with some very creative welding, machining (and some very good friends), made a 250 cubic inch in-line 4 cylinder. Because it was still '1/2 a V-8', the blower, manifold and injectors from a V-8 still fit on top. The 'dead' side had half a head (with all the ports blocked off), just to have some place to attach/support everything. And yes, he had a 180 degree crankshaft and cam shaft custom made. On 80% nitro-methane and 20% methanol, it sounded like a Model A on a whole crap-load of steroids - absolutely fantastic!! He only raced it once, but it still holds the land speed record at El Mirage Dry Lake in the 'E' blown fuel lakester class at 261+mph (from 1998!). Just a ferinstance about 'a pile of scrap metal'!
