127.0.0.1
A loopback address; a non-routable IP address that is defined as referring to the "local" computer.

In other words, 127.0.0.1 is any computer you happen to be sitting in front of right now.

B.

typical subnet mask for a Class C IP address is:

There was a cartoon in an Airman Magazine (or Air Force Magazine) many years ago with Superman similarly positioned, impaled by the nose pitot tube of a landed jet fighter with the pilot calmly saying to the crew chief something like, "I thought it was a bird."
