Not really much of a coincidence. The ratio of consecutive terms in the Fibonacci sequence is approximately the golden ratio, which is about 1.618. The conversion from miles to kilometers is very close to 1.609. So if you start from a Fibonacci number of miles, convert exactly to km, then rounding off usually accounts for the error of (about 1.618)/1.609.
