Planetary Press: Remote outpost decimated!
Unprovoked attack leaves outpost in ruins; dozens feared dead.

PP NewsWire – Saturn Lagrange Station 1: At Galactic noon (3:28 am SL1 time) the Planetary Press received word that the scientific outpost at Devan 3 has been destroyed.

This base was set up over a year ago to study stellar formation and related wormhole formations in the stellar breeding grounds within the Horse Head nebula. Home to over a dozen scientists and technologist, this base was expected to help answer questions on worm hole technology with the discovery of a stable worm hole last year by Captain Cook aboard the Adfecta out in the Sirius sector.

The loss of this peaceful scientific base has sent a wave of concern and contempt throughout the United Solar Planetary Federation.

Little is know at this time, but PP reporters have determined that this attack was sent out from the Tulnak empire, deep with in the Horse Head nebula. This is home to the xenophobic race of beings who have maintained an uneasy truce with the USPF since the return of their ship in the “Alien8 Incident” over 2 years ago.

Reports indicate that a battalion of unknown battle ships entered the ungoverned space where the base is located. Reports indicate that the battle was short and complete as the base was totally decimated and the fate of the 17 base personnel is unknown.

In light of the “Alien8 Incident”, these new, ominous battle ships have been christened “Decim8” and represent a new, potential threat to the USPF.

Few details are known of this disaster, and even less of the aliens who perpetrated it. The PP will do their best to keep the people of the USPF informed as details become clear.

Planetary Press: Alien8 incident revisited!
Provided as a service to those who missed the details of this incident.

PP NewsWire – Saturn Lagrange Station 1: For the benefit of those not familiar with the "Alien8 Incident" of a few years ago, the PP is reprinting the original article here, and as it appears on the back of the kit cover art for the model is this most famous alien craft.

Copy as follows:
“A lean, mean eater of human spleens”

That is how they are known. Truth? Fanciful jest? A story to frighten young children? Hopefully we will never know for sure.

Little is known about the aliens who call the area within the Horse Head Nebula home. This elusive, xenophobic race has had little contact with the United Solar Planetary Federation and all of that has been via audio-only Phase-Space communications.

While technically not an enemy of the USPF, neither are they allies. They have made it clear that they want no contact with outside races and that they will defend their territory fiercely. Evidence of this abounds as ships from various races have ventured into this great stellar breeding ground never to return again.

Early in the seven hundred and seventy third year of the Empire, Commodore Kits, of the secret resistance movement, came across a crippled K’nik ship deep within the boundaries of the USPF. In a show of good faith, this ship was repaired as much as possible then towed back to the expanse. This gesture eased tensions between our respective races to the point where trespassing ships of the empire are merely escorted out rather than being destroyed on sight.

This ship was dubbed with the name “Alien8” because of the 8 bio-units discovered, each one containing an alien in stasis. This was our first look at these alien beings, noting that they were not humanoid in the slightest. Too many limbs of an unidentified nature and several undefined orifices left the crew stunned. As much information as possible was recorded through the face of the stasis chambers, but no attempt was made to open them.

It is hoped that continued peaceful relations with these creatures will result in a new addition to the USPF, but that is not expected for many years to come. It is just comforting to know that it does appear that they can be reasoned with.

End of story

Well, I guess I took it the wrong way. I like the idea of a new release. I recall a vendor (Jim, I think) who had a water leak in the storage area a while back and lost some inventory and generally disrupted the peaceful karma of being a rocket vendor. Along with the notice that shipping was suspended for a week, I thought maybe Jim was making light of an unexpected problem that crept up. After seeing that he's on a road trip and the idea that the Alien 8 had a 'back story' also, I'm pretty pumped.

I haven't bought any LPR for a while, so maybe this could be an impetus for a future purchase.

Cool.

Why is it all of the photos from these sightings ( UFOs, yeti, Elvis, Hellboy, unreleased Fliswerks creations....) all look blurry?:D:dark:

Planetary Press: Decim8 decimates outpost
USPF in blackout as rest of federation seeks answers

PP NewsWire – Jupiter Station: The Planetary Press confirmed the destruction of the Devan 3 outpost earlier last week but is currently unable to confirm any details about the incident. USPF officials have remained closed-lipped about the incident and Commodore Kits has not returned our attempts to contact.

Commodore Kits arrived at Jupiter Station at 0830 hours, local time, and was whisked away without a word to the press concerning this horrific event.

The first on the scene at Devan 3 was the Adfecta, under the command of Captain Cook. The Borealis close behind with supplies and medical aid in the hopes of salvaging some of the base as well as for rescue aid. All of which was for naught as the Decim8 battle ship seems to have lived up to her acquired name. We hope to have photo’s soon, but the general description is that of total destruction. There is not word yet as to what prompted this aggressive act on the part of these mysterious aliens.

At this time the USPF does not seem to be preparing any form of retaliatory response, but most are sure that such is coming.

At this time all we know is that the USPF, in conjunction with the Hobbicron Industrial Empire, and other surrounding governments, are currently in contact with this strange and now aggressive race of beings who are hidden deep within the Horse Head nebula.

Keep watch as the Planetary Press does their best to unravel this story and keep our citizens informed on this most important issue.

hmmm

looks like there has been a semi profile leaked in the 2009 FlisFleet photo!!! (say "FlisFleet Photo" 3 times fast if you dare)

Apparently the USPF isn't being forth coming with all their data!!!

the Engine section looks spindly reminds me of some other secretive prototypes previously leaked form the land of Flistopia.

But I'm not gonna be a thunder stealer, you can find them yourself, both here and on fliskits.com!

Planetary Press: “Act of war” declares Tarnk-nak Union
USPF accused of hostile spy network

PP NewsWire – Jupiter Station: Word is going around that the Devan-3 outpost may have had other goals than the study of worm-hole formation after all.

Discussions between the Tarnk-nak union (as they are now known to be called) and the USPF began with accusations against the USPF of acts of war with what they described as an active effort to spy on the inner workings of the Tarnk-nak union using the outpost at Devan-3. They claim that the primary (sole?) reason for the base was for the purposes of peering into their star systems in the hopes of retrieving information about their race, their government and their technological capabilities.

They claim that these are “acts of war”, according to their law. As it turns out, such a bold invasion of privacy in such a manner would be against the laws of the USPF as well, and considered an act of war.

Commodore Kits has informed the Planetary Press that a news conference is scheduled for 05:30 hours today to help shut down the many rumors that have circulated since this attack took place.

As of the time of this writing there are no signs of any aggression against the Tarnk-nak race, much to the surprise of many in high office. Discussion is still taking place between the two empires with the involvement of most all of our surrounding neighbors.

The Planetary Press will continue to keep our readers informed as more and more information becomes available. We expect to have a full transcript of the press conference shortly after it concludes.

Planetary Press: Commodore Kits speaks out!
Devan-3 was actually a military base!

PP NewsWire – Jupiter Station:
Commodore Kits met with the news corps this evening in an attempt to explain the events that lead to the destruction of the Devan-3 outpost as well as the actions of the USPF in the period since that incident.

Kits’ brief statement and the follow on questions are reproduced here for our readers. Select Hyper-Tac channel JP3 for full, up to the minute discussion concerning this recent turn of events.

Commodore Kits:
“Good evening ladies and gentlemen. First, let me assure everyone here that we are not at war nor are we heading for war with the race of beings that we now know are called Tarnk-naks.

What happened out at Devan-3 was, at best a miscalculation. At worse, it was a blunder of galactic proportions on the part of the USPF government that we are working hard to rectify.

First, let me clarify that Devan-3 is not, and never was a scientific outpost established to study worm-hole technology. While that is still a high priority subject still under investigation, that is not what the base was set up for. Rather, Devan-3 was a military base outfitted with nano-phase technology, hyper-tac arrays and ultra sensitive receivers with the exclusive goal of finding out more about our reclusive neighbors hidden deep within the convoluted space within the Horse Head nebula.

It was a breach of protocol on the part of the military and this governing body. Some would say an “act of war”. But an act of war requires an intention of war. The intention was curiosity and a concern for our own well being.

Good intentions, sure. But that is not an excuse.

The Tarnk-nak Union saw this as a threat to their safety as well as their privacy. They felt they needed to act swiftly, and they did. What is not generally known, that I will tell you now, is that NO ONE PERRISHED in the attack on Devan-3!

While the Tarnk-nak Union wanted to protect their sovereignty they had no wish to take a life nor to strain relations between our governments any further than necessary. True they acted against an installation of the USPF, but it was in free-space and not within the boundaries of any established government. Further, they went out of their way to first remove all of the personnel on that outpost before taking that action. These men and women will be returning to the USPF as soon as we can work out the details of the transfer.

The USPF has acknowledged their role in the establishment of this base and have issued formal apologies to the Tarnk-nak Union as well as to all of our surrounding neighbor governments. The transgression was unacceptable and this may well earn its place in history as one of our most embarrassing moments.

Further, the USPF and the Tarnk-nak Union are engaged in formal negotiations to assure that such transgressions will never happen again. In return, and as a part of these negotiations, we are beginning to establish true diplomatic relations with this race who have kept themselves hidden for so long.

That’s really all we have to say on the matter at this time. We will do our best to keep the press corps informed of critical issues and events regarding this ongoing issue. At this time we expect the personnel from Devan-3 to be returned to USPF space in the next few weeks. When the exact details are known we will pass that on to you.

We have time for a few questions, but we must keep this short as we are all needed in the negotiations slated for later this evening.

Yes, Sonia?

Sonia, Jupiter news. How sure are we that the men and women from the outpost are truly safe? We know so little about these Tarnk-naks…

Kits: Oh, we’re sure. We have spoken to them all and have seen them via hyper-tac communications. Not only are they well, they are excited to be returning and claim to have a lot to tell us about being guests in the Union.

Peter?

Peter, Planetary Press: Sir, what do we know about these battle ships that the populace have christened Decim8’s? Is this something we should be worried about?

Kits: We know a bit and are learning more. You can see this image behind me of one of many of these ships as it left the base. This was taken by long range sensors aboard the Adfecta. What I can tell you is that this ship can out-gun anything we have in service a this time. What they may lack in social graces, they more than make up for in weapons technology. We can certainly learn a thing or two. As for worry, they are certainly way ahead of us in weapons technology, but they can not match the military might of the USPF on shear numbers alone. Also, and most important, we are actively working to establish relations so that such worries become academic anyway.

Madic?

Madic, Jupiter news. When can we expect to see more photo’s of these ships and, if possible, of Tarnk-nac’s themselves?

Kits: Soon, I assure you. That is all we have time for. Sorry for the rushed nature of this press release but we really must prepare for this evening. Thank you and good night.

That concluded the press conference. We hope to have more information available after the negotiations later tonight or tomorrow. The Planetary Press will bring information to our readers the moment it is available!

Planetary Press: History in the making!
Tarnk-nak Union meets in person at Jupiter Station

PP NewsWire – Jupiter Station: The flurry of activity surrounding the events out at the Devan-3 outpost appear to be reaching their climax as representatives of the Tarnk-nak Union have agreed to continue negotiations in person at Jupiter Station.

This long sought after meeting between the USPF and this little known race of beings is taking place as a result of the events from two weeks past where the (now acknowledged) military base on Devan-3 was decimated by a flotilla of battleships sent out by the Tarnk-nak Union as a defensive move to counter what it felt was a threat against their union.

In the weeks that followed it became clear that the Tarnk-nak Union was not acting as a threat to the USPF. Likewise, the USPF acknowledges their role in an attack that destroyed a base but did not take any lives in the process.

“It was a breach of protocol on the part of the military and this governing body (USPF)”, said Commodore Kits in a news conference at Jupiter Station. In admitting the military nature of the base, Commodore Kits went on to say that “the transgression was unacceptable and this may well earn its place in history as one of our most embarrassing moments.”

The USPF Council has assured the Tarnk-nak Union that such is not the way in which the federation normally operates and that this transgression was well outside the realm of acceptable behavior. In that light, and while negotiations are on-going, the Tarnk-nak Union have been invited to continue the negotiations in person at Jupiter Station.

Special accommodations are being prepared as their flagship, earlier christened the Decim8 by the press corps, enters federation space on its way to the inner systems of the USPF. As a show of strength, and for prudent protection of the inner systems of the USPF, a flotilla of representative ships of the USPF have taken up station keeping in and around Jupiter, Saturn and Earth. Commodore Kits assures the citizenship that there is little to worry about at this time as negotiations have been going very well and we welcome this entry into the USPF for peaceful discussion.

The Decim8 is an incredible ship boasting incredible speed and an armament that would put any battle hardened general to the test. Part of the negotiations planned include technology transfer. We have a good deal of interest in their weapons systems while they have expressed similar interests in our growing wormhole technology.

Boasting what are described as Ionic-Slipstream engines, the Decim8 includes 4 phase neutrino cannons, a pair of tight focus weapons that are best described as tachyon pulse cutters, an array of communications gear including redundant hyper-tac units, low tech, high yield rocket propelled warheads and a mini-fleet of close approach attach craft.

While, in the words of Commodore Kits, the USPF out numbers any fleet the Tarnk-nak Union could hope to mount, it is still good news that we will never again be at the receiving end of such a powerful craft.

The Planetary press has obtained the following photo’s of the Decim8 that it has received authorization to distribute. The first shows the Decim8 as it is leaving Devan-3 after the attack. The second photo shows a sister ship as it approaches USPF space, enroute to Jupiter Station.

The negotiations are expected to continue later this week after our guests have had a chance to acclimate themselves to their accommodations. The Planetary Press will keep our readers informed!

Say tuned for an announcement from FlisKits regarding this most exciting subject for reproduction in model form!

Looks like I'll have to go photo album digging!

My question is how did the Tarnk-nak Union get the HERC-5 engine tech from the Hobbicrons?

Oh God, he wants continuity...! LOL

The HERC-5 engine technology was the result of shared technology between the USPF and the Hobbicron Industrial Empire. Unknown to the USPF, the technology was also shared (sold?) to other stellar neighbors including (apparently) the Tarnk-nak Union... It will be interesting to discover what else the Hobbicron Empire knows about these beings.

Keep watch! :)
