Here's a picture of the field that I have been given the green light to fly in. As you can see there are no obstructions. And, there are no interfering fences for alternate grazing. It's all wide open space. Its a 1600+ft. field. That said, its dry here right now so I'm waiting for 2 or 3 inches of snow. Let it snow let it snow let it snow.... Feel free to post pictures of the field you fly in here in this thread......

LOL .... Good one. I'd eat every doughnut along the way.... Tru dat. Hee.

Looks like a great place to fly and a great place to hunt dinosaurs🦖... just don't kill any! (My other hobby is collecting minerals and fossils)

I love it here in SD. The Badlands are bad *ss. Incredible landscapes here.

Second guess. Mahto??
Hi David .... I'm on the Wyoming border which is a long ways from where you are. Spearfish. I have permission to fly on 3 different ranching properties. Do you know anyone who flies rockets in this part of the state.?? I would love to hook up with someone in these parts.

You mentioned a new field near Brookings. Is there a club there.??

I'm 4 hours from Mahto. Is there a club there.??

Nope. Just looked like Mahto. Yes there is a club in Brookings. A guy posted on here saying they had a new field. I do not know who it was though.
If the Brookings club is listening, give Sluggo a shout.
I do not know anyone that flies out there. I am hoping to find the Brookings field and maybe be able to at least watch at a launch.

When I was learning all about RC Airplanes I belonged to a club and I used a great online forum. It was priceless having those resources. I'm not slamming this forum by any means. It's great. But I've got A LOT to learn..... A club would be ideal.

I might have to move to Colorado.?? Tru dat.!! lol.

Ya. I'm planning on going to a launch in Colorado sometime in 2021. I think they have dry conditions as well so I want to be certain its a go.

Lakeroadster, I'm in Grand Junction. We've been launching north of Fruita on BLM land near the bookcliff. Of course it's Class 1- not HP qualified as yet. Would like to get a waiver somewhere nearby after getting the L1 sometime soon. Might need to be out near GreenRiver, Utah to get away from tight airspace corridors into GJT.

They used to launch these at the Green River complex to White Sands NM up till about 1980. Not sure why the STARS and Bars are upside down tho...20170125_120251.jpg20170125_120342.jpg20170125_120020.jpg Should qualify for a waiver of say 20K hmmm?

Rocks&Rockets, maybe it is for identification if it is headed down toward the ground!

The field with the dusting of snow looks good and open. Thanks for posting those up.

I knew where you were with the first photo. I've driven through Grand Junction many, many times, on the way to Utah. Usually stop in Grand Junction for food and gas. I've also canoed Loma to Westwater.
Camped at Colorado National Monument overnight one time.
I didn't think the fire ban extended west of the mountains. I'd even considered driving to Grand Junction because I knew they had a lot of open land around there.
Nice rockets and nice photos.

I taught myself RC also. No one ever told that when you make a 180, now the controls are reversed :(
@David Schwantz I got into RC this past summer and that is the hardest thing for me to try to hardwire into my brain. I bought a flight simulator program and a Spektrum USB dongle to communicate with my DX6i that a friend gave me. I practice on my HTPC and HDTV. Having the flight simulator has definitely helped.

Spot we were told about by the locals in AZ and sworn to secrecy. This is one of those places where anything goes and you don't really want to be out there after dark as the people get "interesting". Nearest town is 25 miles away on dirt roads.

We drove to the the mountain range in the back ground. It's 5.25 miles from the launch site. Basically a 5 mile square area that is dead flat. Tallest tree is about 9ft.

If you lose something out here it's your own fault.

I could lose a rocket out there. Easily. Every shrub looks the same and some 'line of sight' has no background mountain to line up with when you go for a walk..... That said, it is a decent launch site.
