Phone won't connect to Eggtimer Proton

My Galaxy S9 won't connect to my Eggtimer Proton. It tries to connect but since there is no internet it doesn't stay connected. It keeps wanting to connect to my router so I turned off the router and still won't connect. There has got to be a setting on the phone that will let it connect to wifi without having an internet connection but I can't figure it out. Please help because I am going to a launch in the morning.

Try turning your mobile data off and just leave the wifi enabled. You don’t need the internet connection.

Do you have your “Ask to join” on?

+1 on the above two suggestions. If it complains about not being connected to the Internet, click on the "it's OK" or the equivalent question. iOS does this too since version 12... apparently they never considered that somebody might NOT need to be on the Internet...
