Great report Brother John. We are lust a bit closer to releasing the
HMAS Bonestell because of your endeavors.

Not so sure about the Ballz Vs. No Ballz experiment. Something about saying "No Ballz" that makes me jumpy.


But really, that would be a great experiment. If someone conducts it please let me know.

It just wound not be the same beast without them. They make the look of this one and the Bonestell estate would probably bring action against you if you tried to remove them.

I plan on trying, at the least, an Estes E9-4 and AT E11-3 this Saturday. I might, emphasize MIGHT also try an E6 if I have a short delay and maybe and F12-5.

As I mentioned at my last launch, I found that I had gotten messy with the epoxy in the fin repair and that the launch lug was partially blocked, forcing me to fly from the 3/16" rod instead of the 1/4" one.

I mounted a 1/4" bit in the drill and ran it through the hole until my rod could pass freely.

I then used a razor to pry up the glob that had accreted on the aft ring. You couldn't tell it was ever there.

Now, its ready for my next E motor experiment.

I brought the Bonestell out for my birthday launch. It was pretty windy so I kept the power down and put in a D12-5. In the past, this has been the motor this rocket likes the best.

The takeoff was nice and the kids present were quite appreciative.

As it got going though, I saw something I had never seen on this rocket with a D. It was doing mild corkscrews similar to what it has done with Es.

In any event, it did eject fine and was recovered in good shape.

My nephew having arrived shortly after the flight wanted to see the Bonestell so I grabbed an E9-4 and set it up again.

However exciting it was, the cows were not impressed. The kids were. I was mortified.

Looking at it as I approached, it seemed as if I might be able to clean it up and repair it.

When I turned it over, though, I knew all was lost.

A later exam showed that I had not installed an E9-4. Instead I had grabbed an old E15-4, the very motor I had been warned about on this forum.

I went with the Naval vision of space flight instead of Air Force.

We are still working on the Destructions...
