When filling tube grooves.
What is more popular,
wood puddy them primer or
primer then automotive type puddy?:(

Carson, welcome to the forum!

I don't know that you can go particularly wrong in either way since this part of the process is technically for "looks", but I pefer to putty the grooves first for one reason and one reason only - the putty that fills the grooves seems to adhere to the raw material better than if filled over a coat of primer.

Once the grooves are filled and dried, lightly sand away the excess but try not to sand at the raw tubing material itself. Then apply your first coat of primer. Typically, this first coat will expose any areas you missed.

That's the way I do it. I'm sure you'll get plenty of other responses. See the attached picture so you get an idea of what I mean. BTW, I use Elmer's Fill 'n Finish. Most do...
