Hi there, new to this forum and a first time user of openrocket.
I have designed a rocket in the program and was able to get it assembled with a motor and run the sim, no problem. Then I decided to see what the effects of adding a stage to the bottom of the sustainer would be like. I was able to add the stage with fins, inner tube set as motor mount and can add a motor to it. But I'm not able to have a motor in the sustainer at the same time. I can only get openrocket to show a motor in the sustainer or the stage, but not both? What am I doing wrong?

See attached file.

Thanks
Glen

First of all: A+ for including the ORK file with your question. Sincere thank you.

In order to have a motor in both stages, you need to configure two motors in the motor configuration: 1733706640740.png

Once you have motors configured for each stage (in the same configuration) then it'll do what you expect.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I tried what you suggested, but still cant get it to show both motors in place at the same time. I'd like a D12-7 in the upper sustainer section and a D12-0 in the lower stage. can you possibly send me the corrected ORK file for me to play with?

Hey, Much thanks for the updated ork file!!!! that works well!
It's interesting that a single E12-6 will achieve almost as much altitude as the combined two D12s. The one E12 being more economical then two D12.
Well, an E12 has a bit less than twice the total impulse as two D12s, but also weighs quite a bit less, so there you go.

On the other hand, E12s have historically been more CATO-prone than D12s, although there have been some issues with D12s lately. Also a two-stage flight is a very different animal from a single-stage flight.

If pure altitude in a 24mm mount is what you want, then an Aerotech E20 is probably your best bet (among single-use motors, at least).

Yeah, but a single E-12 isn't as cool to watch as two D12s doing the staging thing. I would bet it'll stage pretty low so you'll be able to see it well. Is your speed off the rod ok?

Disclaimer... Maybe you shouldn't stage. It's addictive, lol!

Neil, thanks for the heads up on the motor recall!

Bob, I can see how a two stage would be much cooler to see in action then a single stage! :)
