I think I have seen that sign. Phuket, Thailand. Lots of ladies with dubious intentions also attend. Also, I hear that you can get charged about $20 for a can of coke, hence the "only pay for his drinks". Basically a way to scam tourists. Phuket is one of the three places, over all the locations my wife and I have traveled around Asia and the world, where locals look at you and you can see they are thinking about how to get money out of you. Will never travel to Phuket again given that attitude from the locals.

I hear some of them are actually ladies…

I was at a club in London which had a free “floor show” I’d had two really expensive drinks before said show started. T’was then I realised why the drinks were so expensive…

#13,990 - 93

random dot stereograms

#13,994-95

Boxes I made from redwood, with redwood burl tops. The figuring looks like flames. 94 has book-matched panels, 95 has only a single panel. I had not intended this when I made them, my mother's ashes were interred in 94, some of my uncle Dusty's in 95.

#14,034 Mario at the Belgium Gran Prix winning the Formula 1 title. I have the poster of this framed and on my wall. I just wish I could have gotten it signed. :(

Five-tube radio

The "All American Five" was a popular AM radio design. The filament voltages of the tubes (typical example: 35W4, 50C5, 12AB6, 12BE6, 12BA6) added up to about 120 vac, obviating the need for a transformer to power the filaments.

As an OldGuy™ I took "Electronics and Power Mechanics" my senior year in high school. The major project was construction of such a radio. Mine worked great until some @sswipe accessed the locked panel where the partly-completed radios were kept, and beat up mine. Jealousy, I guess. :( I was able to get it working again though its performance suffered.

Did you know that if you touch the wrong pin on the right tube, you get to feel AND hear 120v at 60 Hz. DAMHIKT ;)

#14,058 I should know those 2 divers. Who are they?

Jacky Ickx in the red suit, Jackie Oliver in Gulf couors. They won the 24 hours of Le Mans in that car in 1969.

Recent shot from the Goodwood Speed Festival.

A bit of trivia - 1969 was the last year the Le mans used the traditional start were, at the drop of the flag, the drivers sprinted across the track and jumped in their cars. Most drivers would just jump in and go, braving the first lap melee unrestrained and trying to do up their belts as they blasted down the Mulsanne straight at 200 mph.

Ickx found this to be a dangerous process and staged a one-man protest. When the flag dropped, he casually walked across the track, got in his car, taking time to securely fasten his safety harness and only then did he fire up the big Ford and head out, very near the end of the pack.

24 hours later he and Oliver were standing on top of the podium...
