Congratulations! The one currency we spend but never know the balance - TIME!

I hope to be following your footsteps SOON! Especially after today at the "day job" haha! But I want to make rocket stuff, so more like a semi-retirement.
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Doc! The original plan was after Christmas. You know, kinda the end of an era thing. The visible coda. The end of year/fresh start stuff. But, thinking outside the box, I realized I really didn't want to get up for a long cold drive early in the morning. Yeah, maybe I left a little money on the table but right now, I can build out a few birds as the playa starts to cool down, get my tackle together for some morning fishing I haven't done in years and start on the honey do lists while I have long sun days for a bit. House needs painting. Stay tuned. I still owe you something I promised you years ago. Straight smoke and good chutes!
I appreciate it. I understand how hard it is to find things in the organized Chaos.

Congratulations. I'm probably four to five years out. Less if we can figure out how to get cheaper health insurance.

As an aside, I think that nearly all politicians vastly underestimate how many people are only working for health insurance. If the US ever moves to some kind of universal health care, politicians will be shocked when a third of the work force immediately retires.
John, you are dead on, no pun intended. I still have British friends from when I grew up there and now we are all older (the lucky ones) our bodies are starting to fail. The difference is dramatic about the care they receive and the Billings they don't. It's criminal. Not only do they pay way less, they get better care. My boss was literally a millionaire and he stayed working long after he could have retired. Just for the dang medical coverage. Seems the 1% don't have a problem with wage slaves but know we are expendable, so they get as much as they can, even at the end. Deplorable. My faith dictates looking on the good side and loving the time with my wife I have been blessed with. A lot of friends did not make it to this point in life, so I consider myself a representative of my generation to the future. This helps guide my hands and my heart to leave my corner of the universe a little better, a little kinder, a little cleaner and more peaceful than when I came into it. I refuse to Poison my heart with the easy hate the indifferent world can dish out. Light one candle, etc. I fully intend to give a damn about my fellow humans as long as I can. It is not very easy some days. But with folks like you doing good things I am never alone and I thank you for that. Straight smoke and good chutes. Peace

Scott, still making those zoomie rail buttons? Might be time to order some. I got the time now. See whut I did there?

My boss was literally a millionaire and he stayed working long after he could have retired.
I know that story. The irony is that when I retired I applied for Obamacare, because I was living off my savings and not collecting pension, SS, or even taking out of my 401k yet, I listed my income as zero. That redirected me to State-supplied insurance. Don't know how, but NJ set me up with better coverage than I get from my job. Now that I'm working again, I actually get crummier coverage. Ah well, it's not like I ever find time to go to a doctor anyhow.

Ha ha ha..... Your list of things that need doing just increased 10x . Good thing is you'll forget most of them..... Welcome to retirement.
Wait, I'm retired now? It would have been nice to at least get an email. Why is this room full of rockets, don't we have a maid? Pass me the sandpaper, dammit!

I guess I am now officially a broke ass, old, retired Rocketeer. Dayum, it's been some time coming! Please feel free to drop any reloads or spare change in the cup of the curmudgeon wearing dark glasses, support hose, a cheap toupee and an Estes rocket shirt from 1968. We appreciate your humanity. As for Me? I'll settle for small, unmarked bills. Or large unmarked bills. Money laundering while you wait. Not a motor vendor. A little help recovering is always appreciated with somebody on the other end of a radio. I don't need much except friends to fly with. Woot! First day of freedom! Crap, now I gotta clean the rocket room up enough to get something done. The build pile is making scary noises deep down on it's own. Even when the light is on. If I don't post back in a week, please give my widow fair prices. The sale could last for months, if not years. All my motors are safe under the baby's crib.

Welcome to the Light, oh youthful one... :eggnog:

Congratulations on surviving the work force, and now to do what you want to do. Be aware, you may end up busier than you've ever been.

Had dinner with my old boss. He was the CFO and Vice President I reported to directly. He laughed when we both accused each other of being workaholics. He was younger than me but stepped out sooner and encouraged me to join him. He also knows how hard headed I am. He even pointed out now I have more time for my true passion: Rocketry. He knew when flying season opened up and he let me get away with murder on my schedule to support me. I think I'm going to like this, after the strangeness goes. I am a bit lost without the routines over over two decades. Just a thanks to all my electronic friends out there that live here on the Forum. I am truly blessed and feel less lonely in the big world because of you guys. Sincerely, thanks.

This is harder than I thought. It has been a week. It is now 0245hrs. Same time I used to get up for work. Dammit. Got up yesterday at the same time after looking at the ceiling in the dark for half an hour. Got up, put a chunk of 5.5" tubing on the scale. Put a long cone on it. Did the mass thing again. Cut off base of cone leaving a shoulder. Scaled it and wrote it down. Sketched out a planform. Decided cranked arrow Delta swept fins beat out stubby Nike style. Can't find a stick of 54mm motor tube. I know I'll hate it later if I go with the 38mm I've got. Laid out a plank with 3 thru the wall tabs. Went back to bed. We were supposed to fly at Lucerne Saturday, so yesterday I broke out the popup to simulate an early morning camp set. I was going to set up a table and cut the fins out of basswood. I promise pics, but no build thread. I Kept getting texts from friends about the fires North of L. A. and by evening it was decided the fires were not a good thing to brave and as we dropped out one by one, the launch got cancelled. Tore down the popup and stuck it in Mobile Hangar #6 (Ford Freestar van). Decided to keep the hotel reservations I normally get for the Viking Princess and here we are. Watched Despicable Me 4, while having a great dinner in the room. Took a nap and now here I am. Had a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal with banana slices. I travel well prepared. I have a coffee suitcase and a kitchen suitcase so I am independent of any restaurant or coffee shop hours. So, here I am. Wide eyed and bushy-tailed, breaking my promise not to post boredom messages. I guess my book list will climb by at least 3 by Sunday. Forgot to bring my whiskey. Watching one of the endless numbers of Fast and Furious, getting ready to soak in the tub and knock out a book. I have 5 to last me until Monday. Believe it or not, never read Wolfe's "The Right Stuff". It is for me now! Happy Friday to those who still use calendars. I'll get the hang of this pretty soon.

How was Despicable Me 4,?

Please describe it best you can, thanks.

You need things to look forward to doing, but not too much to make you stressed. You got the hobby thing already. Keep up with the work and projects around the house. Then, pick some volunteer work. Meet good people, stay busy, and collect good karma points (which I could always use). Personally, I volunteer with the Red Cross. They have a VERY wide variety of jobs to be done. You can do as little or as much as you like. If you want, it can be like having a job, just without those pesky paychecks!

It's been almost a year and I'm still 5am everyday. I moved 7 time zones and it took 3 days before I was back to 5am. Just embrace it.

Took me two years, ran outta coffee twice. Good luck.

I liked it as a Minion Movie. The plot? No spoilers here. Laughed out loud maybe three times, at least once because, well, minions! Think of it like a James Bond novel written by an 8 year old, but it's not a bad thing. Nice plot twists, little personality caricatures and Minions! Funny, obvious to a point of predictability but, hey! It's a cartoon! In the end, good guys win, bad guys lose and the world keeps on spinning as it should.

Aye, Captain! Ironically my daughter in law is some muckymuck in the Red Cross. One of my mates is tending a refuge center for the big fire lines north of Los Angeles. I like the idea of getting some karma credit! Thank you for your services and suggestions!

A good book to read for those who are retiring is "The Joy of Not Working". Don't read this book unless you really plan to reitre.
Thanks! You know I'm a reader and that is now on the acquisition list. Now I'm spooked. Did I make the wrong move? BTW, "The Right Stuff" was pretty good, especially in review thru the lense of history. Funny if you remember actually living thru it.

Your adventure is inspiring. As much as I'd like to return to Britain, it's not in the cards. When I met the Viking Princess, she had never left town! Spirited her over to the Grand Canyon when I got an engineering job there. So happy she followed. It's been 47 years of adventures. Except she don't do rockets, heat or the desert. Keep us all posted about your latest adventures. Peace

When my wife and I met in college we both had lived our lives almost exclusively in a 50 mile radius. Over the last 26 years we've expanded our world together. It can't be overstated how much finding a solid partner in crime/enabler can impact your life. Enjoy your increased time with the Viking Princess, maybe you can stage a short raid on Britain together...that would be a very Viking thing to do afterall.

somebody's going to point out a problem with priorities- coffee suitcase and kitchen suitcase but no adult beverage suitcase?
