I only see it as being introduced, not yet voted on, or passing into law.

It passed House and Senate, and is currently waiting on the President's signature. I don't think that there's a commitment to sign or not sign the bill, so it's theoretically possible to influence the man in the big chair. Calls to the White House switchboard (especially if you voted for him) may be helpful. Or they might not. I honestly don't know where he stands on this particular issue.

All this means is no change from whats been happening for the past who knows how many years.

Right, but the status quo was horrible and the intended changes that restore some privacy provisions were much needed. Now, once this bill is signed, and I have no doubt be will sign it, we consumers have little hope of reform for about four years. Next on his agenda is undoing the net neutrality provisions in favor of "business-friendly" fast and slow lanes. Uggghh.

And the rules did seem to prevent them from moving forward with more abuses. I would have far less of a problem with it if there were competition for broadband ISPs, but there isn't. In my area, there's Comcast. That's it. Most people are in a similar position. If I want broadband, I have to go through them. The local phone company (CenturyLink) is worthless, tops out at 5 Mb/s as of a few months ago and has no plan to do much of anything about it from what I can tell. And they won't even commit to installing that. They say they will "try" if I ask for it and charge me regardless.

Verizon is wasting no time... https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...seless-appflash-search-tool-upcoming-rollout/

I'm planning to VPN my entire network. Comcast can watch my encrypted data and go do something with themselves I can't say on a family forum.

Sure, the VPN provider could do something similar. I can change VPN providers. I can't change Comcast. I'll support changes in Washington, but with the current congress and president, I don't expect much.

I'm already shopping for a good VPN, just in case! Not that I have anything to hide, mind you, I just don't like the idea of being tracked and sold like a commodity...
any recommendations?

There are a number of good options. One place to use as a cross-check is here. https://thatoneprivacysite.net/

I'm considering giving Mullvad a try, they aren't perfect, but take bitcoin and at least make a lot of noise about not logging you. They also support IPv6, which I like to support.

I don't care about hiding, just having control over who has my data and how they use it. Google has a ton of data about me, and everyone with a gmail account. I choose to accept that trade off. I can choose not to any time I like. And they at least have some opt-out options for it. I also get something in return, various services. I get nothing from Comcast tracking me.

Activist finds the perfect way to turn tables on lawmakers who voted to repeal internet privacy rule

Republicans in Congress voted this week to gut a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) privacy rule that would sell everyone out to Internet Service Providers (ISP). The push will give ISPs the right to sell customer data to marketers, insert ads in your traffic, and insert tracking cookies in HTTP traffic that can’t be deleted or traced.

Repealing the FCC guidelines is a huge blow to online privacy. So Adam McElhaney, an activist based in Chattanooga, Tennessee who cares about privacy and net neutrality set up a GoFundMe page to collect donations to buy the internet histories of everyone who voted to repeal the FCC’s privacy protections.

The page is called “Purchase Private Internet Histories.”

“I think that your private Internet history should be yours,” McElhaney wrote on the page. “I also believe your Internet should be neutral. I am raising money to help secure those freedoms.”

McElhaney explained that because the Senate is gutting online privacy and allowing anyone’s internet histories to be purchased, “I plan on purchasing the Internet histories of all legislators, congressmen, executives, and their families and make them easily searchable at searchinternethistory.com.”

“Everything from their medical, pornographic, to their financial and infidelity,” McElhaney wrote. “Help me raise money to buy the histories of those who took away your right to privacy for just thousands of dollars from telephone and ISPs. Your private data will be bought and sold to marketing companies, law enforcement. ”

I woke up this morning and my Amazon Alexa was comparing notes with my Samsung smart tv over something my car had told them. The iPad scoffed at the both.

It's a good thing you don't have a Google Home, that thing can ARGUE!!

Hope everyone has a really good Spam filter... you're gonna need it pretty soon.

I think my TV, microwave and computer are all spying on me. My refrigerator thinks I'm just being paranoid.

I never complained about our government, not even taxes,, the government is extremely complex
and I've always felt I'm still better off living here then any place else on the planet..
The services we get for our taxes are quite expensive as well..
As I get older I am getting less tolerant of the constant flow of BS that comes from our government..
The crap flying around now is about it for me..
This country was just attacked by Russia..
Yes, I said it, that's the way I feel, that is what happened..
And now our entire US Federal government is bickering like children across the party line..
There is such a line drawn between the 2 parties that everyone is walking around wearing a pair of handcuffs
wondering why they can't accomplish anything..

I just refinanced my home..
The amount of spam I'm getting right now is off the chart..
I'm tired of it and now it's going to get worse..

Would someone do me a favor..
Just to remind me..
Post up that thing that used to go around about how much a congressman's salary is and
all benefits they receive for being a congressmen including their healthcare package..

May as well do a senator too..

I always liked reading those...

Russia had nothing to do with hacking Hillary. It was an insider. No one can track Russian hackers. If you think it was them, it is really some fat guy living in his moms basement building Alpha 3 Estes rockets.

You people need to read infowars!
