Saw about this on the Beeb's site.

I'm not a metal fan; but I love live music, and used to play in a band, so I find this tragedy a little 'close to home'.

....and on the aniversery of John Lennon's Deathday too .... :hmmm: ......

I heard that this guy went off because he blamed Darrell for the breakup of Pantera. Anyone else hear this?
At least the cop spared us the trouble of keeping this sack of crap alive for a trial.

I heard Dimebag got shot last night before I went to sleep. I can't believe it. His brother was killed too.

I think you heard wrong. Vinnie was the one to call their dad. He used the cell phone of the club employee that called the cops. The cops wouldn't tell him at the time even what hospital Darrell was taken to. No word on him being injured. Unless, of course, some media sources got things very wrong and others passed that along.

It was on Fox News. I hope that's not true.

Apparently Fox was wrong. This is from today's (Fri. 12/10) local paper:
https://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/10384948.htm

"Dalworthington Gardens police, who guarded the gate at Abbott's home Thursday, said the family was waiting to make a statement to the media until brother Vinnie Paul Abbott, 40, Damageplan's drummer, and other relatives come home."

The cops are still there. Probably as much out of respect as for protection. That plaque on the brick mailbox stand says something like "We appreciate your attention. Please respect our privacy." and everybody always did.

That's good to know. I'm sure there was a lot of confusion after everything that happened. Dimebag Darrell was your neighbor?

Yeah, a couple blocks away. This is a very small town. It's entirely surrounded by city, but that just keeps us together. I've only lived here a couple months, though I've spent time here before. And my wife's owned this house for 10 years now.

He used to have a great big, like 10 or 12 feet wide, green plastic head (top half of it anyway) with red eyes and pointy ears, and two huge green hands with clawlike fingers, hanging on the roof of his house. It was supposed to be like an enormous troll crawling over the top of his house.

That, and regular $100K suburban homes, and $1M mansions and 70 year old box style ranch houses with barns and livestock, and everybody here lives and lets live, and that's what this place is like.

I met him when he was loading up to go on tour. He was loading the U-haul all by himself. I asked if he needed help but he said no. I just knew he was loading a truck. My wife told me later who he was.

Anyway, here's something I threw together in about an hour. I'd hoped to have it finished for the DARS launch tomorrow, but it got too windy to paint, and this one doesn't go up until it's painted.

That is a sweet tribute to Darrell. Please post pics when it's painted.

I know everyone may not be a metal fan or approve of some of the behavior band guys do, but it's nice to see people across many walks of life moved and show respect.

One of my co-workers, a female in her mid fifties, asked me to show her a picture of him. She made the picture her desktop wallpaper and said that was going to stay there for a while. Wow, respect for Darrell, who she had never heard of, and respect for me too I think.

I know DamagePlan was no where near as popular as the Beatles, but I certainly know how people must have felt when John Lennon was killed. (not to make anyone feel old)

I did read on MSN that there was some yelling about Pantera breaking up before they guy started spraying. How bizarre is that? So you kill the guy that made your favorite music. And if I remember correctly... it was Phil and Rex (singer/bass-Pantera) that moved on and never came back.

In my mind, this is equlivent to a school shooting or a disgruntled employee taking out co-workers. I know the last thing on anyones mind when they go to a concert is getting shot in the audience, or on stage...

I am still speechless and find it hard to believe. Thank God for that officer, because that nut job wasn't finished yet.

Here it is finally. I couldn't do the V form head of the guitar, so I settled for a cool paint job: gold fading to fluourescent orange fading to red, with the Dixie cross on it.

Speaking of, his folks put up his Chritmas lights this year, including the dixie flag in tiny lights on the front porch.

Very cool! I was just wondering today how it was coming along. Thanks for posting it. One final request if I may... Let me know how it flies should you decide to launch it...maybe even a pic again:)

Unless the weather changes significantly from the forecast, it should fly Saturday. I'll try to get pics. I'll also try to get pics on the lights before they take them down.

Well, it flew, but I forgot to take the camera to the pad.
Same camera I forgot to take to the pad for my L1 flight.
I need to tape it to my forehead maybe.

It only took me a month of driving past every day to remember to take it out and catch Darrell's Christmas light display. You can see the Dixie flag on the front porch.

/salute

Thanks for the update.

That's definately the first Dixie flag Christmas decoration I have ever seen!

It flew perfectly at the DARS launch at Rockwall on 2/12/05.
My timing was a bit early for the launch, so here it is on the pad.
