rstaff3 mentioned "kick the can" in the "sad news, sad state of affairs" thread in referring to games and pasttimes. man, it's been so many years I can't even remember the *rules* for "kick the can"...
What other obscure, long lost, time consuming games do you remember from your childhood? I'm not talking about Lego or Monopoly or anything like that. I'm talking about those games that *someone* made up, that everyone seems to have played as a child.

one that I remember (man, we were *poor* and had to make do) was "duck on a rock"...
Some one is "it". They take a tin can (the duck) and place it on a rock. Everyone else takes *their* tin can (other ducks) and stands behind the goal line.
Now, the object is to hit the "duck on the rock" with your can and knock it off (one point) while the poor guy who is "it" has to protect the duck (like a goalie) (remember, back then tin cans were TIN, not aluminum... man, you could rob a store wielding a *tin* can...)
The rules were more involved than that, but that's the jist of it...
great game. Built character. Well, it built lumps, but mom called it "character"
